Holo everyone!
We're looking for an artist to draw a few arena "halves" along with the background for our 3d artist to use as a reference.
I will try and give you an example in crappy mspaint sketches and hope one of you amazing artists will be up for the task. We figured having good-looking 2d versions rather than just sketches could be useful to showcase on the website and other places so we're looking to hire one of you for it.
The idea
Based on which healer you're playing, your "half" of the arena will be a bit custom to represent your class; Ocean, Forest and Light. So we'd need a background outside of the arena to fit in with all 3 versions and it to not be "too different" so it would stand out too much from the other half if they're playing another class.
Let's say the arena has these dimensions:
We'd need a certain "place" where the healers can stand and give orders and cast their heals from and the creatures would be inside the arena.
If we assume the healer to the left is Ocean and the one to the right is Forest, the arena halves would differ where there'd be some "pools" of water here and there, maybe a few ocean things like shells, sand, etc. While the forest side would include more forest things like plants, flowers, roots, etc.
The important thing is that the "borders" would for instance be brown color to represent ground so the arena has to start matching a little before it gets to the exact middle part so it wouldn't look too much like a straight exact line between the ocean side and forest side.
This example would be something that'd take a bit to draw even as a sketch so I'm hoping you're able to follow my points by text (we can of course get into more details later and revisions, etc, if you're chosen for the job).
The arena shouldn't "look" like it's as circular as in the example sketch above but naturally form a circle to give the creatures room to fight in.
The other important part is that the outside of the arena has to have a theme as well without favoring any of the 3 classes, so I figured maybe they're somewhere near a lake in the background, a little bit of forest and then also some futuristic cities in the far away background. Point is that the "end" of the circle has to also naturally connect with the rest of the background no matter which class's half is being represented at that time.
Keep in mind that the halves of the arena can switch sides, some times u can have the same classes on both sides, etc. But these additions are better to look into later.
Either way, we're looking for someone who has experience with "background" artwork so we'll be tagging the winners of the background contest we hosted to give them a chance to apply first but we will be considering all valid entries. Please do include links to your portfolio or previous work of what is being requested (anime-style background)
@deddywox @victoradebiyiart @solumviz
We'll be offering $200 in Hive/HBD for 3 class variations of the arena halves + the background (we'll require a 360 background but the full version can be sketched and not in as much detail as that "one shot" we'll be using for website, etc)
In the future we'll be looking for more customizable arena halves and backgrounds (for instance when playing during the night, etc) so stay tuned for that and please contact us in this post if you're interested and feel free to let us know what you think of the idea in general!
We'll discuss details with the artist we choose for the gig, thanks!
Today I polish more. 😁
hey that looks great! I'd recommend to check this comment for a better reference of what we're looking for exactly! We're happy to curate more entries but will only pick one winning one!

Read the whole thing and I like your ideas for the arena and I somewhat understand what you are looking for here.
The three background which matches the arena will be the toughest to create haha. On top of that sometimes the arena theme changes based on the type so it's becomes a bit more tricky here to match it with the said backgrounds. As for the border we can just blend it with the arena as it moves towards the center.
I have some questions.
What kind of view are you looking here? Like top view, side view drawing etc
Coloured or lineart?
Good questions, basically it'd just need to "blend" in at the edges of the arena and center so it wouldn't look too alien to each other.
Like say the ocean side which has some puddles and water and stuff would closer to the center become mud/ground to then fade into the ground/grass of the other half. While they both on the outside start to fade into the "background".
For the main image we'd wanna use on the website, etc, we'd want it say the camera not too high from the ground behind one of the healers with focus on the arena, healer and creature on the other side and the background.
A little like this random example from google but potentially closer and smaller arena compared to the one here so the creatures and healers are clearly visible:
We'd be okay with the background being colored only while the characters include lineart.
Upvoting your comment to the top for this reply since it's too late for me to edit the post right now.
Even if I placed the characters in this arena they will be small and slightly blurry unless they are very close don't you think? When you see pictures like this the idea is to show the picture as a whole. I can try drawing in 3k and see if the results are good. Are you looking for backgrounds drawn in landscape mode like this?
I forgot to ask the deadline for this if any?
Another example:
Looks like this one will be much more useful since it's a bit more zoomed in. In this type of view the healers should be placed left and right and a split in the middle shows the are from different elements. Are you okay with the backgrounds drawn in this angle?
Yeah something like this example would probably be perfect, just to get a shot of the different elements of the arena and the background along with a lively battle occurring in the center.
Left and right on the healers sounds great too!
Need sleep now, will check back tomorrow morning
Alright! I'll see what I can do.
Good night 💤
@shinoxl has done great work for Splinterlands.
Thanks Matt
It will be very challenging to create a fighting arena, this must be thought through carefully. This will be an interesting contest☺
You should definitely try. I remember your beautiful background art for the contest. I'm not so good with it but I'm definitely testing some designs when I get time.
@victoradebiyiart should also try!
Yes, I'll try it, but I don't have an idea yet in my head that I should put into this fighting arena concept ha..ha.ha.. Maybe I'll look at your entry first, observe and try it 😁
Don't wait for mine because I don't know if I have time to do both Zingtober and this. We'll see haha. The angle is not something I'm familiar with. That's the main issue here other than the mentioned challenges.
Yes, I also don't know whether I can take part in the contest this time or not, because right now I'm busy working on airdrops on Telegram which also takes up my time.
Working on airdrops? Is it legit?
Yes, yesterday I made quite a profit from the Notcoin and Dogs airdrop, tomorrow I just have to wait for the sale of my Kombat Hamster airdrop on Binance. Hopefully the price is good
Already on it buddy
Thanks for the mention though
I could try something, but when I saw that the request had more to do with an Anime-oriented 2D artwork, I skipped coming up with some ideas.
My style is more PixelArt and not Digital Drawn Art per se.
Good luck to those who take part, there are some great artists here at Hive.
I could sketch on paper but I find it hard to sketch digitally oops! This would have been a great opportunity to showcase my talent.
It reminds me of Yu-Gi-Oh arenas from the cartoon a little bit :)
@acidyo do you think this might be a good idea?
