Holozing Fan Art Water Whale Wood carved necklace [ENG-ESP]

Hello friends of Holozing, I hope you are feeling very, very well, I have seen that this year the project has started with a lot of encouragement and new ideas, I have been able to review some things which have caught my attention, and I hope to be able to learn more about this interesting universe and thus get more involved. I have always made a lot of fan art of other creatures, in fact I think that the one I have made the most versions of is Wrackoo, I have made it in many versions, so upon reviewing I realized that I had not made Whale before, so I thought about making a wooden carved pendant of this cute figure. The process was very fun and I share it with you briefly here, I hope you like it.

Hola amigos de Holozing, espero que se encuentren muy muy bien, he visto que este año el proyecto ha comenzado con mucho ánimo y nuevas ideas, he podido revisar algunas cosas las cuales me han llamado mucho la atención, y espero poder aprender más acerca de este interesante universo y así involucrarme mas. Siempre he realizado muchos fan art de las demás criaturas, de hecho creo que la que he hecho más versiones es a Wrackoo, lo he hecho en muchas versiones, así que revisando me di cuenta que no había hecho antes a Whale, de manera que pensé en hacer un dije tallado en madera de esta linda figura. El proceso fue muy divertido y aquí se los comparto brevemente, espero les guste.

PROCESS

To make the Whale figure I used mahogany wood, which is very soft, and also has a very beautiful reddish color. The wood used was 4.5 centimeters wide by 3 centimeters long and 5 millimeters thick. On top of this piece of wood I made a drawing of the Whale silhouette and then little by little with my wood carving tools I was going to give it shape.

Para hacer la figura de Whale utilicé madera de caoba, la cual es muy suave, además que tiene un color rojizo muy bonito. La madera utilizada tenía un tamaño de 4,5 centímetros de ancho por 3 centímetros de largo y 5 milímetros de grosor. Encima de este pedazo de madera hice el dibujo de la silueta de Whale para luego poco a poco con mis herramientas de tallar madera iba a darle forma.

One of the things I do, after drawing a figure, is take one of the smallest and sharpest gouges and with it make a cut along the side that I have drawn, so I can mark a limit as far as I can cut the wood. Here you can see how I start from Whale's tail, shaping it little by little.

Una de las cosas que hago, luego de dibujar una figura es tomar una de las gubias más pequeñas y afiladas y con ella hacer un corte por la aprte que he dibujado, así puedo marcar un límite hasta donde puedo cortar la madera. Aquí pueden ver como comienzo desde la cola de Whale, darle forma poco a poco.

Little by little, as I mark the entire cut, I gradually remove the wood in the place where it was marked. In this case starting from the tail, you can see how the cut is, the model is based on a humpback whale.

Poco a poco al marcar todo el corte, voy retirando la amdera poco a poco en el sitio donde fue delimitado. en este caso comenzando desde la cola, pueden ver como se el corte, el modelo esta basado en una ballena jorobada.

Then I mark the bottom part of Whale where you can see how little by little its enormous fins appear. I had to be very patient to cut this part, since the space was very small and thus it was very easy for it to be damaged. But because I used a very fine gouge, I was able to make the correct cut.

Luego voy marcando la parte inferior de Whale donde pueden observar como poco a poco van apareciendo sus enormes aletas. Esta parte debí ser muy paciente para cortarla, ya que el espacio era muy reducido y así era muy fácil que se estropeara. Pero gracias a que utilicé una gubia muy fina, pude hacer el corte correcto.

Next I finished shaping everything around it, I even made the stripes that humpback whales have. I looked for two types of sandpaper, a very coarse one to remove damaged parts and shape and a finer one to polish the wood and make it very clean.

Seguidamente termino de darle forma a todo a su alrededor, incluso hice las rayas que tienen las ballenas jorobadas. Busqué dos clases de papel de lija, una muy gruesa para quitar partes dañadas y dar forma y una más fina para pulir la madera y que quede bien limpia.

To give the finishing touches, I placed a small ring through which to put the necklace, I sanded the piece again a little and finally I put protective varnish on it, this protects the wood and gives it a shiny touch and also makes the wood turn a more beautiful color.

Para dar los toques finales, coloqué una pequeña argolla por donde poner el collar, volví a lijar un poco la pieza y por último le puse barniz protector, esto protege la madera y le da un toque brillante y además hace que la madera se ponga de un color más bonito.

FINAL WORK

What did you think of the result? The size suited me very well, compared to previous pieces, which since I was inexperienced in carving wood, they were quite large for me, but as I have been learning more, I now make them in good sizes to be necklaces. I hope you liked it, I'm thinking soon about making a larger statue-style figure, I just hope to have the necessary wood, I say goodbye and it will be until a new opportunity.

Qué les ha parecido el resultado? el tamaño me quedó muy bien, a comparación de piezas anteriores, las cuales al ser inexperto tallando madera, me quedaban lago grandes, pero como he ido aprendiendo más ahora las realizo de buenos tamaños para ser collares. Espro les haya gustado, estoy pensando pronto en hacer una figura más grande estilo estatua, solo espero contar con la madera necesaria, me despido y será hasta una nueva oportunidad.
