good morning good evening from anyplace of earth! and welcome !
about two days ago I've been practicing with lights and shadows, to try to get out of my comfort zone. while practicing with basic objects I decided to actually post ab it and picked a character to do so, i choosed to make a fanart of the ocean healer from the holozing game, and put my hands to work.
I guess the hardest part is to gain muscle memory, I really like to observe people being... well, people, and although I'm not the best artist of the time, I really have fun creating...
So, letting my imagination run wild, I wanted to make the ocean healer with colorful sparkles all over, a cute look and smile, and a different type of hair/outfit.
something more casual and ethereal I guess.
i use clip studio for this kind of stuff and i draw on a graphic tablet, below nwn the procedure :

SKETCH AND CLEAN LINES
so, i do a basic sketch of the shape/size/style i want to do first, not all the times it looks similar to the clean artwork, and that's bc while im drawing i can fix things that i belive doesnt work as much as i would like them to... so yeah i change what i think it doesnt look good and do a bunch of ... whats the word in english im lookingfor? lol well i do the changes i need to do.
sometimes the changes looks good and sometimes, they dont match my initial idea/colors/shadow and light work, but thats the magic of the creation. :3

Basecolor and hair
simple as it is, i just dump base colors to the parts i want to draw, lol, for this i always try to remember using the most boring neutral colors, to leave space for actually highlights or shadow, if the color is too dark there is not much space to work with soooo yeah i try to keep the balance.

ok so, i did an overlay and on top of my previous layer i started trying a bunch A BUNCH of things, ended up with this vibrant color mix that i liked (but it started to worry me cuz i was like, lmao now i have to think of a proper background lol)

ok sooo you guys remember when i write ab not making the colors tooooooo dark or tooooo light cuz it will fuck up all ?
welcome :D when i started doing the shadows noticed my skin base was way too dark and panicked lmao but its fine, there are not such of things like errors just happy mistakes
sooo from here i start to actually experimenting with the proper lights and shadows, so a bunch of tries/happy mistakes and all :3

for the clothes i did it all in the same layer (terrible mistake) cuz when i wanted to change some stuff welp .. i couldnt :D XD above all it looks good, lol all artist talking ab perfect art process when we ALL KNOW creation takes time and caos to become a thing C:

This looks so beautiful, it's one of the most colorful drawings I've seen around here, with the black background it stands out quite a bit.

Wow I really liked the skin style you gave to your drawing, and the hair has been phenomenal, those colors are very beautiful and have a slight neon effect in some lines.
