The newest collection of non sequential artworks from Byron hit the virtual WAX shelves last week when he dropped a new A.S.S. Pack on the wax.io platform.
For those unaware, Byron often mints his sketches and doodles along with miscellaneous paintings into small collectible art series on WAX, under his main collection. A.S.S. stands for, originally, Amalgamation of Stickers and Sketches. It's a fun and interesting way to engage with the Horde community and get collectors trading among each other in an inexpensive way.
Before last week there were 7 A.S.S. packs, with a second edition of the 3rd A.S.S. pack and yes it's kind of funny typing A.S.S.
The 8th A.S.S. pack is more elaborate in the fact that it is not only a collectible series, but it's also a race to be the first to collect sets within the series which will entitle the holder of the sets to special rewards later on.
Let's break it down.
First of all there is the actual pack itself. Byron continued with the traditional pack of cards visual with a golden hue this time. Could this be a golden ticket reference or just coincidence?
While making the final artwork and doing all the math for setting up the packs, Byron realized to late that he would need another 6 artworks to make things work they way he wanted. So it went from 26 different collectibles up to 32. Now that the math worked, it was time to launch the rest of the game.
Byron's weakness is that he likes to create and release. The marketing and build up needs some work.
This is the ROADMAP for A.S.S. pack series 8
STEP ONE - promote organic growth of Da Horde's Coin ($DHC) by pricing the pack so that the best value was by using DHC. To do this Byron set up drops on both NeftyBlocks and NFTHive. Those platforms allowed him to list drops in multiple currencies, including Byron's token DHC. WAX, WUF, DHC, and Honey or Nefty were the currencies with a huge discount if you used DHC.
This worked well and the price of DHC jumped dramatically and has held its position. Image and data from Taco Swap .
Byron did add liquidity in the beginning but since then it has been community driven. Byron made it very clear that the best deal was by swapping WAX for DHC and nearly getting 7 packs for the price of one. Byron does plan to add more liquidity in the coming weeks and will continue to give DHC back to the community.
STEP TWO - raise the floor prices on Byron's main collection byronartset1 as well as myzicklearmy , another of his WAX collections. To do this Byron set up a burn mechanic on NeftyBlocks that allowed collectors the option of burning old NFTs to get the new one. Burn 5 from byronartset1 or 7 from myzicklearmy to get a pack that holds 4 new artworks.
The overall effect of using crafts to exchange old for new isn't new itself and still works well to raise the floor price of collections. On WAX this works really well since it's easy to set up and gives a reason to not only create open editions, but turn them into a way for holders to earn something from nearly nothing. The floor price of myzicklearmy went from 0.1 WAX to 0.3 WAX and the byronartset1 collection is at a solid 1.9 WAX from it's previous 0.5 WAX
By this time the marketing was underway. It wasn't very well planned or organized and relied heavily on the community and word of mouth. There needed to be a reason for people to want to collect, besides JUST wanting to collect. A reward to build a bit of fomo.
This brings us to ....
STEP THREE - Since the art was set up to be collected in small sets within the series, Byron created 3 different rewards for those that collected. There are the 6 Speed Skull paintings, the 10 Ink Sketches and the 16 Square Skulls. Each or those got a 'collected the series' reward, which would be a limited edition animated NFT
To avoid people reusing the same NFTs to claim multiple rewards, NFTHive crafting contracts allowed for Byron to lock the ingredient NFTs into a contract for 14 days, after which time the collectors could reclaim their NFTs. This allowed for people to claim as fast as they could without worrying about which mint numbers were being used, since they were not being burned.
When it came time to open the packs, the fomo hit the collectors and there was a frenzy of packs being opened, new packs purchased with DHC being the top coin used, and a lot of burns. The race to be the first to claim the reward crafts was on. Secondary floor began to rise, the DHC began to rise, trading volume was up a bit. Not HUGE HUGE numbers by any means, but still a fun little activity to give to the WAX collectors.
STEP FOUR is what happens next. What will happen when all the special NFTs are claimed. What happens if they don't get claimed before March 28th? Where is the extra utility? No one has asked Byron for anything more than what he already does. Most collectors enjoy the hunt and thrill of collecting, and since WAX is very inexpensive, it typically doesn't cost a lot. Even though no one complains or asks for more utility from the art, Byron keeps trying to think of new ways to reward holders, and there is no coincidence that there are 6,10 and 16 rewards.
We don't want to ruin the surprise that will be revealed on March 28, but here's a hint
Can you guess what Byron has planned? Let us know in the comments and ask questions about things. If you collect on WAX drop your wallet id and we'll send you a WAX NFT Gift.
