Same difference

I wandered lonely as a cloud that floats on high o'er vales and hills...

- William Wordsworth -

It's safe to say no two clouds are alike, that each is unique to itself and individual from all others I think. I'm not sure if cloud-watching is a thing but clouds have always caught my eye, most especially when they are out of the ordinary, at sunrise and sunset and when the changing light lends them a dramatic effect; bring them to life.

People see shapes in the clouds and I do also; I recall moments as a kid laying in the grass looking up turning random shapes into fantastical beasts, mundane animals and any number of other things my imagination could conjure - I was fascinated by them.

I've been going through and organising my photos into folders lately and was struck by one group all taken at a place I visit a lot; Semaphore Beach, close to my house.

As I flicked through I noticed how different the same place can seem depending on the light, time of day, weather and clouds. I'll admit to being addicted to sunsets but cloud-formations, and the way light transforms them, are also very pleasing and I thought I'd share a few today, all taken in the same place, but different.

It's rare that I'm on the beach in bad weather so generally it's either completely clear or there's scattered clouds in the sky. I walk there in winter too, in fact some of the best shots I have are from the winter months - We're blessed with mild winters here so it's easy enough to hit the beach for a walk. I've yet to snap a storm rolling in though however plan to rectify that eventually - Storm clouds can be most wondrous.

One of the things I love about clouds is their ability to transform the same view into something completely different, the way their shapes, sizes and the different cloud-types can give one the feeling of being in someplace different altogether. It's demonstrated reasonably well in this series of photos I took all off the same beach at Semaphore.

I'm a man who enjoys solitude. I don't need people around me to feel happy, entertained, valued or content - I find those things within. I spend an inordinate amount of time in the wilderness and natural places and whilst sometimes I'm not alone I am comfortable with being so. I find through nature comes a feeling of peace and serenity - It's in those moments I can think more clearly, look inwardly and seek answers and simply be at one with the planet and myself.

It's not always possible to escape to far away places though and I'm fortunate enough to have this beach close by - A place I can retreat to, walk, watch the sun set or rise and find the same feeling of happiness I find in remote and distant places.

Beautiful sunsets and cloud formations are welcome companions in these moments. It's nice that I can go there and find the same difference; Same place, same beauty, same feel - Different look.

These are flippin magic. When I saw the first line of the post I thought, oh no, he's gone full stoner but then I saw it was a quote. I love clouds and the shapes in them too but I rarely see anything like this!

Lol, full stoner. I have to keep y'all guessing right? Don't want you getting bored.

I'm glad you like the pictures. I guess you lot have to like the clouds, what with the 379 days of rain per year that you have.

Heheheh, ah yes. Sometimes I think it is more days than that a year! :OD

It is really annoying in Winter, quite often it is grey and smeggy all day and then at night the clouds clear and you get fantastic views of the stars. Which is nice and all but if it could be clear during the day occasionally it would be nice!

And aye, keep us on our toes!! lol

Good snuggling weather in winter though. Gotta keep warm somehow.

It is nice peering out the windows into the foulness, true!

Great photos, very vivid colors!

Thank you, I appreciate you taking the time to comment.

These definitely look like some awesome clouds I love the dramatic oranges and other colors of the sunset.

You’ll usually do well to have both beautiful scenery and solitude to get the mind cleared, thoughts organized and a nice mental refresh. Even 5 minutes outside just sitting there on our deck has been great for me, times seem to want to be stressful often lately but a breath of fresh air and some nice clouds and sunlight can give us a good recharge.

The scenery supports the solitude and brings serenity. Something like that anyway huh? 😉

Wow looks like professional😍❤️😍

I just pointed the camera and pressed the shutter release; from there the magic happens.

Haha really your photos are just next level buddy

Very lovely and beautiful

Thank you for taking a look and commenting. 😊

This is something I have noticed even among new photographers. Being addicted to taking pictures of the sky I mean. Once you really start paying attention to it, it's almost always spectacular in one way or another. Unfortunately many people forget about the power lines in the pictures :( ...

I took some photos of powerlines with the sunset beyond a little while ago. Came out well.

Sometimes they do - but other times they end up looking like the focus of the picture :(

I guess so, but if the image brings happiness to the person that took it then I guess that's all that matters.

Excellent point ❤️ You might even have me rethinking those "flower posts" 😂! But I still won't encourage them 🤣

woo beautiful and very accurate description of the sensation that is born when seeing the sky in all its splendor, the same thing happens to me since I was a child, I have total admiration for the sky, every morning is a different art and it is impossible to feel tired of seeing it because it never repeats the forms, it is infinite and the best thing that just by seeing it you recharge your energy and you feel how the vast universe makes a breath of life and inspiration within you, at least that is what happens to me when I admire the sky. Thank you for sharing your post, I was very pleased. until next time.

I believe that it's through nature we can find inner peace and looking at cloud formation has always been relaxing to me, and interesting.

Thanks for taking the time to look at my post, I really appreciate it.

Thanks to you for such an interesting post! Greetings.

You remind me of my childhood, when me and my friends play the game "shaping the clouds". We looked at the sky, and the person who can shape the most things from the clouds will win. I forgot about it for a long time until today when I read your post. Thank you @galenkp!

I think we've all played that game, or something similar, as kids. The clouds bring free entertainment to children and adults alike.

When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;

Love that poem, and your photos are amazing.

Yeah, it's a good one and whilst not completely relevant to clouds per se, I think it works.

People see shapes in the clouds and I do also; I recall moments as a kid laying in the grass looking up turning random shapes into fantastical beasts, mundane animals

I remember doing this as a child. I always saw superman tho. I don't know how and why it was him.

I'm a man who enjoys solitude. I don't need people around me to feel happy, entertained, valued or content

I feel this should be the goal for everyone where you don't need external validation to be happy.

It's difficult but I guess when it comes from within, no one can steal your joy.

Nice article on nature

Finding value in oneself from within negates much of the negativity from others.
