Hello there, there are a few days since my last post on Rising Star but afraid not, I haven't stopped playing, in fact, some really interesting things have happened since.

Previous and now

I think an account update is in order. Below you can see the cards which were bought at the time. These are the main reasons I could achieve the following stats this quick. I have 185 PERMANENT FANS , 58 LUCK and 412 SKILL and I am level 17.
I am really happy with the investment I made so I made a few others.
If I were to make a more in depth analysis on the PIZZA SLICES as well as Chaney The Rapper, I would have to say they serve a different purpose for a similar goal. Because I am still new myself and I don't have a clear rotation set-up, mostly because of my limited number of fans and dependent on the drunk ones, I am not even able to use all 3 of PIZZA SLICES in a day. I know, what a waste... But I will get there. Chaney opened up a permanent set of gigs and missions because of 50 FANS.
All of this was happening while a little thought kept bothering me:

Watch out, you will face your EGO soon.

So... What is EGO?

The idea or opinion that you have of yourself, the level of your ability and intelligence, and your importance as a person.
Cambridge English Dictionary

Let's translate this into the game and see if we are onto something.

When you have more fans than skill your ego increases. Each mission also increases your ego.

Sound familiar? Because it is. There are multiple examples of this happening in real world which don't even need pointing out. Clearly you should always try to keep improving you skill as you grow as a musician and as you have a more and more successful music career. With every concert, gig, mission you gain more confidence even though your actual skill does not really improve that much, you may become better at performing in front of a crowd, but other than that, you haven't really learned any new techniques or "chords".

Increased ego reduces the maximum number of Starbits you can earn on missions. Balance your Fans to Skill ratio by taking some music lessons, placing cards in storage or by buying cards with more Skill than Fans.

I really have to agree with this, for a healthy game and ecosystem. Otherwise, people might spam only high level missions without ever trying to get involved into the game. Also, this can happen in real life too. Many artists have become mega-stars without improving their knowledge throughout their career and in the end, they were less and less sought for when it comes to concerts and gigs.
This game is fun and for the current state, which is beta, I believe it has some solid mechanics built in.
Can't wait for future updates and see what will be the state of the game in an year's time.

DISCLAIMER: I am not an affiliate to the game, nor I have any financial advantages for adverstising Rising Star. I enjoy the game and this my personal opinion.

Cool, now we know how EGO works. But how do we deal with it and what did I do once EGO was prompted?

To keep EGO below zero you need more SKILL than FANS. Why below zero?
Well, as you can see in the above picture, the higher the percentage of your EGO, the bigger the reduction in STARBITS gained for a mission.

There are a few ways to turn the ratio in favor of SKILL:

  1. Music lessons - probably one of the most straightforward ways of achieving skill, you spend your energy in exchange of SKILL; there is a mechanic around this, which I will approach after this list;
  2. Buying Cards - Fastest way; People, Vehicles or Boosters cand provide instant SKILL for your STARBITS;
  3. Storing Cards - This can be a temporary way to turn the tides, while you achieve more SKILL, storing your high FANS count cards;
  4. Selling Cards - This is the last on the list because I strongly believe it should be more a last resort option, cards are GREAT;

Here is what I did. Bought more cards. Surprised?

So far, I only got one of each.
Why instrument? Firstly, because, and this is the mechanic I mentioned above, with each instrument owned for a particular lesson, your SKILL gain per lesson increases. Secondly, it was on my GOAL.
R153 Sitar with 50 LUCK rose my gains from 5-10 SKILL to 8-17 per lesson. I need to get another one ASAP.

R134 Rachael serves kind of a clear purpose. She opens up a lot more missions for me to do, while have a SKILL/FANS ratio over 1.

My last goal is 50% done as I still have to get a PIZZA BOX.

Until next time, Rock ON!
