Exode is everything it claims to be, and will one day be everything it dreams of being. That's what Blockchain games are all about. Get in early, help the developers achieve their goals, and then reap the rewards. The same rewards that gaming companies of a soon-to-be-bygone era would take all for themselves. We are still in Blockchain-Gaming infancy and already there are games being built using Unreal Engine. Not forgetting the smaller companies like Unity who are growing every day in the indie arena.
With dreams of being more complex than Civ, and indeed some claim it already is, Exode takes us on a journey through time and space. The human race, already settling the stars, comes under attack from an Alien invasion force determined to take what's ours and wipe us out in the process.
You captain a ship and must help your crew escape an under-fire space station with important cargo (you are hopefully carrying) that you will need to help survive on a new planet.
The Exode devs have done brilliantly with the opening scene. The drama sucks you in right from the start. This shit is serious. Captain, it's up to you to save your crew. It's not put exactly like that, but that's just how it feels. You're there and your quick decision-making could make the difference between escape, or not, survival on a new world, or not. You may escape by the skin of your teeth, but then, what hope of survival later? The planet you land on will have a host of variables that will need to be taken into account. Losing even just one crew member could mean that, ultimately, you and your crew will perish.
During the escape, there could be up to three crew members missing and you will either have to radio through to them quickly to get back here (to which they will duly oblige) or send important crew members to look for them. Important because your crew could be doing other things like collecting precious fuel (that will also have importance on your new planet), upgrading the hyperdrive on your ship, finding new citizens, loading new cargo, or shooting dead bad actors. As you can probably tell, the opening scene is a very important one to get right as it will determine everything you do afterward.
As well as your crew, Exode gives us the ability to carry passengers in the form of important citizens that can help shape our civilisation - for that is what our aim is. Survival of itself is all well and good, but the idea is to prosper. Players will be able to do this through a wealth of means, like alliances with other players that will create a massive political side-game with intrigue played out across chat servers and social networks.
After escaping the space station, we enter the planet-finding scene. During this act, we find a planet but we are still being chased by aliens and will have to evade capture. Exode offers a wealth of tools to do this as well as rarer NFTs that may make things a little easier. OK, they definitely will make things easier. The better investment into the game, the more varied your experience will be. The old adage, you only get out what you put in should be the mantra of all blockchain games. As well as having a great pilot, weapons expert, ship medic, empath, radar specialist, and every other crew member one can think of (and more) to help ensure evading being killed, one is able to scan the planet for information pre-landing.
Pockets of human survivors will populate a multitude of planets within the Exode metaverse, each striving to create new civilisations with their own complex politics, relationships, and trade systems. There will be mining for precious and important resources as well as an in-game currency with utility that will create an out-of-this-world trade market.
