My Early Childhood Tattoo Myths

in Tattoo World 🌎last month (edited)

During my early years, we were taught how bad it is to own a tattoo, our guardian’s thought of tattoos as a negative influence on society especially when they involve religion but I see no bad thing in owning a tattoo.

A tattoo is a way of expressing ourselves without even saying a word, just merely looking at the tattoo we can get to know the kind of person he/she truly is, but it was not understood like this by everyone around me when I was growing up, the hatred and despair for the tattoo was extremely on a high side. My first impression of the tattoo was that it was a means of identification during slavery to get a job, my grandmother owned a tattoo and she said it was the company she worked for that drew specific abbreviations with meaning on her hand. She was the first of a kind for me to see tattoos.

There are some myths about tattoos I was told when growing up by my Guidance and Society which I will be sharing here

  • Demons get attracted to people that draw tattoos: This specific type was common then, we see people who draw tattoo being possessed by demons in my childhood, I thought it was true but growing up made me understand all this were just rastical ignorant believes. Te reason why churches understood it like this is because most of the people that draw tattoo in my society are smokers or womanizer during those days, but now I understand everyone is different from each other.

  • Tattoo are Marks of initiation: We were made to belief those days that people that own a tattoo belong to a specific cult or a group of people that works for a specific personal purposes. Some even told us that it is more spiritual than it looks on the outside.

  • You will get Infection From Tattoo: We were told niddles used to draw tattoo are being cleaned and used Again for another person so there is a high chance of getting infected from it, and also that tattoo attract infections.

  • Tattoo Attract Negativity: This is the biggest lie I have ever been told before, that drawing a tattoo will bring bad luck to the person and also attract negative demons, all this are all lies, since a lot of people are influenced and brainwashed by religions but now people are starting to see the reality of it all.

  • Dislike of Niddles: some people lie that they hate niddles that's why they don't want a tattoo, they hate seeing middles touch their body I think this is weird way to describe not liking tattoo.

All this while we were deceived but I don't really blame them actually, people around me where little experience on the outside world and some were very religious that they set themselves holy and abstaining from worldly distractions.

Tattoo best describe a person or whom a person wish to be, like me now, I Want to be courageous, strong and a king in my domain so I will love to have a lion tattoo, I don't really know about others actually, but I feel everyone can get to choose their choice of tattoo they want no mere just definition of personality but based on Love of nature or artistic visuals.

There are societies that are still very closed to tattoos, not only in allowing them but also in accepting those who already have them.
Fortunately, access to information from other places and the experiences of those who are tattoo artists or have had tattoos are helping to minimize this negative impact.
Thank you for participating in our initiative.

Thank you, for appreciating my participation.

I appreciate 😊

Amazing ♥️

Hi @mikechrist, you did a good selection of tattoo myths from your experience, I am glad that you understood better what the art of tattooing is all about and were brave enough to do the ones you were satisfied with regardless of the prejudices of others, I congratulate you and thank you very much for participating.

Thank you ☺️, @soyunasantacruz, I feel welcomed and happy.

Hello, the truth is that there are many myths and truths regarding tattoos, it is true that some people who wear them are more daring, but it is not something that completely defines a person. From what you have described, I remember the issue of infections, it is a matter of hygiene in every business. Thanks for sharing your opinion. Regards.

Those were the lies we were told when we were small. True about the infection.
