When I first saw this prompt, I felt a sense of certainty about myself. However, as I began to write, I realised how challenging it could be to articulate who I am. I realised that I hadn't truly delved into the depths of my own identity before. But despite the struggle and self-doubt, I chose to view it as a personal challenge rather than a roadblock. I acknowledged that answering this question was not just for the sake of the initiative but for my own self-discovery and growth. So I went on a journey of self-reflection, exploring my perceptions of myself, the blocks that shape me, the values I uphold, and the way I navigate life.
As I write these words, I may not have all the answers yet, but I am committed to continuous introspection and learning. Because I embrace my responsibilities and flaws openly, understanding that they are a part of being human. I believe in the power of self-improvement and reflection as they have played a pivotal role in shaping the person I am today.
I am eager to explore the aspects @damarysvibra proposes, which include health, work, family, friendships, money, leisure, spirituality, and self-realisation. Here's my result:
Health:
Maintaining my health is paramount to me and will always be a top priority. Like most people, I detest the feeling of illness, so I make a conscious effort to prioritise my well-being.
I begin my day with a morning jog three times a week, dedicating an hour to jogging and another hour to various exercises that bolster my muscles, joints, and flexibility. This routine leaves me feeling invigorated and prepared to tackle my daily tasks without succumbing to stress.
When it comes to nutrition, I am selective about what I consume. Despite financial constraints, I am mindful of my sugar intake due to a family history of sugar-related illnesses. I limit my sodium intake and opt for natural sugar beverages like smoothies over carbonated drinks.
While I occasionally indulge in junk food, I do so selectively:)
I not only focus on my physical health but also prioritise my emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. Here I would love to mention that I strive to relate well with people, to make them happy and be of value to them; this is not to impress anyone but to nurture my emotional and mental wellness.
Ultimately, I believe in the synergy between a healthy body and a healthy mind, each complementing the other.
Work:
Work plays a vital role in our life journey. It's a reality that putting in effort is essential for a fulfilling life. Personally, I find joy in completing tasks both at home and in the shop. I have a deep passion for writing, reading, and continuous learning.
Family:
My family is small but tightly knit. We share a deep bond and treasure each other's presence. My immediate family includes my parents, siblings, a few relatives, and some family friends.
I value independence when it comes to decision-making, behaviour, and work. I respect their autonomy and avoid unnecessary interference in their lives. However, we stand united and offer unwavering support whenever the need arises. This is to say that we first live for ourselves and then for each other.
Friendship:
I'm not one to have a ton of friends due to my reserved nature. I've realized relationships just happen naturally; I don't force anything. Those who stick around do, and those who don't, well, they leave. I don't seek to impress but to live authentically and ensure I'm not hurting anyone.
I don't have close friends at the moment; maybe in the future that might change. Right now, I hang out with a few people I work with. We share common goals, support each other, and have a good time during our free moments.
Reflecting on this, I think it might stem from my struggle to trust others. Past betrayals have left me cautious; it's hard for me to trust easily, but when I do, I tend to trust deeply.
Money:
I enjoy working and earning. There's a sense of satisfaction in spending the money I've earned; it helps me understand its value and how to use it wisely.
Currently a full-time student without a physical job, I rely on my parents for financial support. Despite this, I aim to maintain a decent lifestyle that I plan to uphold even when I start earning my own income.
Leisure:
I engage in various activities during my free time, often learning along the way. I enjoy outdoor games with family and friends when the opportunity presents itself.I love to spend time outdoors playing games with family and friends whenever the opportunity presents itself.
I love to read both African novels and life-supporting books. I love to watch the choreography of my favourite music artists, and I also love to try out new recipes.
About my spirituality, I am deeply in love with God and His words. My relationship with Him is invaluable; He brings me peace and joy, even amidst chaos.
Each morning, I start with meditation, followed by thanksgiving and prayers. I maintain the same routine before bed at night. When you truly appreciate something, it becomes a habit, even an addiction. That's precisely how it is for me.
So, this is me—a mature individual mindful of my actions and their impact on my life and those around me. I cherish living in the present, confronting my fears, and embracing my imperfections without pretense. I believe silence is preferable to lies and deceit.
This year, I embarked on a personal project of learning, doing, and building myself because I want to answer this question of who I am better in the future. I don't want to grow up and be in the position where I hide from myself because I failed to improve myself today. Nothing good comes out of hiding unless you're working towards improving while hiding. This realisation guides my path today.
Thank you sincerely for reading this far. It's my first post in this wonderful community of mindful individuals. I'm delighted to have engaged in this initiative, and I eagerly anticipate further participation.
