Desde tiempos remotos el hombre ha intentado comunicarse a través de diferentes medios, uno de ellos es la escritura, en la cual empleó inicialmente códigos y dibujos rupestres que se hacían en las cuevas, rocas y árboles como un testimonio de su presencia en determinados lugares, durante mi recorrido por el estado Bolívar específicamente en el municipio Cedeño, tuve la oportunidad de ver un petroglifo, trabajos esculpidos en roca que son considerados como arte rupestre, el origen de su nombre petra o piedra que deriva del latín, este petroglifo se ubica actualmente en el patio de una casa, en conversación con el dueño de la casa me estuvo explicando que la roca tiene años en esta zona, de hecho desde que él vive en esta casa el petroglifo está allí y ha sido visitado por muchos residentes de la ciudad y turistas que se dirigen hacia este hermoso municipio para ver y conocer el tallado en piedra con muchos años de antigüedad realizado por nuestros antepasados, se cree que este petroglifo es un testimonio de la actividad humana desarrollada en estos lados del Orinoco desde hace muchos años, se calcula que tiene más de 300 años y se conserva en buen estado.

Getting to know this ancient art was a great experience and although several hypotheses are raised about its origin, the fact that it has lasted for several years and its rock style show us the skills, creativity and need of man to communicate.
Su creación se le atribuye a los grupos aborígenes que habitaban la ribera del río y era una forma para comunicarse entre ellos y transmitir parte de la historia a la nueva generación, se considera además un registro de los eventos naturales que el hombre experimentó en esa época, mientras vivía en cavernas, este petroglifo recibe el título de el sol y la luna, de acuerdo a la información de un destacado historiador, en él se pueden apreciar la luna y el sol en lo que parece ser un eclipse, evento que fue tallado en la roca posiblemente con piedra o alguna herramienta muy fuerte que permitía hombre ir cavando en la roca y dar forma a la figura, lo roca donde se encuentra el grabado, según la apreciación del dueño de la casa parece tener forma de tonina (delfín de río), un simpático delfín que habita en el Orinoco, tal vez los grupos que vivían en esta zona veían regularmente a estos animales y quisieron reflejar su existencia escogiendo una roca con forma parecida a estos habitantes del Orinoco
Conocer este arte milenario fue una gran experiencia y aunque sobre su origen se plantean varias hipótesis el hecho de perdurar por varios años y su estilo rupestre nos muestran las habilidades, creatividad y necesidad del hombre para comunicarse.
