Photo Editing Fun

For some reason I was feeling frisky.. I was going through recent photos I took and ended up clicking on the wrong button looking for one of the ways to turn a picture into black and white.. and ended up being amazed at the results hahaha.

Make sure to check out the originals at the end for what they really look like!

I don't know if it was because I was listening to a podcast a little bit earlier that was talking about breaking out of our comfort zones in order to grow mentally and spiritually, but I was trying to get some photos finished up so I can figure out what to write about them and post them when I clicked the wrong button, but figured I would roll with it and see what I could do. I ended up going down quite a fun little rabbit hole in the GIMP software!

I don't know fully what these edits are just yet, but I do know that there are different groupings. There are some that are "lighten" for the photos, meaning making it brighter. This is a way to try and correct poorly managed photos and I think it was a pretty cool thing. One of the really interesting things I found out about the process is that it was doing selective color edits which I've been really meaning on figuring out how to do!

The candy cane in the picture here is one that has a nice red, green and white stripe going down it. I was messing around with the editor and it did this, which was awesome! I've always loved and been amazed at photos where they select out one of the colors but leave the others alone. That type of stuff is really cool but likely takes a fair bit of practice, which I don't have a lot of time to do. You can see it better below! The green shows nicely, but the red is turned into largely greyscale, dope!

These are the most dramatic ones hahaha. They are the "darken" side of the equation! The one immediately below was one that really blew me away. I wasn't expecting it to be so strong, yet incredibly powerful at the same time. The complete removal of most of the colors and turning them black, except for the small jingle bell in the picture was really fascinating stuff! I don't normally like those wild edits but that was pretty damn cool if you ask me! This one was called "burn" and it sure as shit burned the colors hahaha.

The last one here was one called "multiply". I don't know what it means by that but it was a cool photo edit nonetheless. I like how it really darkened and made it seem more like dusk than anything else in the photo.

I've got SOOO many photos that I want toe experiment with tweaking them like this. This is a little bit exciting at the end of the day!!

Here are the original photos from the ones above :D. It really was a dramatic bit of editing, compared to the originals don't you think?! Really interesting what the computer algorithms can do to these types of things!

It looks like an asteroid and a completely different photo from the original one if you ask me. I know that there are many possibilities with editing and everyday we're getting something different and all these editing softwares just gets better. The only thing is that editing needs a lot of time

Hey, I think we have those same ornaments. My wife and I just put up our tree this past weekend. About five weeks sooner than we usually do!
