First street portrait of the year! Headed over to the Highlands today, was trying to get permission to post up and document the scene in a bar that used to be my old hideaway. Actually it's is the Hideaway Saloon but we just called it the Hidey. It ended up not being open yet, they'd changed the hours and neglected to inform my memory or the internet. Wandered the neighborhood instead to see what I could shoot and this feller stopped me and asked for his photo to be taken.
Still getting the hang of the 85mm prime, not quite got the hang of how close I need to be yet, so it was good to practice. One of my #1 fans rode by and waved while I was at it, was heartwarming to see.
On the cooler side of things, there was an abundance of natural ice. It's been nearly a week since it last snowed but it hasn't warmed up enough for it to go anywhere, so the sidewalks are piled up with the dirty snow-ice the plows pushed off the roads. There's also another flavor that comes with 5.9% alcohol.
The nonalcoholic natural ice has been melting some, so I had to take advantage of the puddles in unusual places while they lasted. It was curious, people seemed more relaxed when you're obviously taking photos of puddles and not them. Or maybe they were just too busy watching their footwork on the treacherous sidewalks.
Last but not least is the Highland's wizard! Think he was trying to keep it covert, but the wooden staff, pipe, and beard kind of gave it away. Hell, it was the smell of pipe tobacco that led me to him. Didn't want to have to explain the digital wizardry I was pointing at him so we just kept to pleasantries.
Now is it summer yet?
I hate this kind of watery smushy winter weather, it's either snowy or not snowy for me, not this half assed excuses for a weather.
But you captured it very well, I love the photo with the puddle reflection, very well done!
