Kind regards. Dear hivers, the graphic story that I present to you is from a health operation in the city where I live. It is the first Vaccination Day which corresponds to the period 2024/2025. This work proposes to continue, protecting and promoting the eradication of polio in communities far from direct access to health centres in the municipality of Cedeño, Bolívar state, Venezuela.
Saludos cordiales. Estimados hivers, la historia gráfica que les presento es de un operativo de salud de la ciudad donde habito. Es la primera Jornada de Vacunación que corresponde al periodo 2024/2025. Esta labor propone continuar, protegiendo y fomentando la erradicación de la polio a comunidades alejadas del acceso directo a los centros de salud del municipio Cedeño, estado Bolívar, Venezuela.
I am invited to participate voluntarily in the indigenous communities of Romana Vieja, Las Delicias, El Bolsillo, San Rafael de Morano and Cerro Frío of the indigenous peoples of the Eñapa or Panare ethnic group. This humanistic work is in charge of the coordination of the Immunisation Programme of the Arnoldo Gabaldón Hospital with the participation of different institutions such as Unicef, Rotary Club Caicara del Orinoco, the municipal health institute of the mayor's office and other organisations that are responsible for actively participating in this health management in the region.
Soy invitado a participar voluntariamente en las comunidades indígenas de la Romana Vieja, Las Delicias, El Bolsillo, San Rafael de Morano y Cerro Frío de los pueblos indígenas de la etnia Eñapa o Panare. Esta labor humanística está a cargo de la coordinación Programa de Inmunización del Hospital Arnoldo Gabaldón donde participan diferentes instituciones como la Unicef, Rotary Club Caicara del Orinoco, el instituto municipal de salud de la alcaldía y otros organismos que les compete participar activamente en esta gestión de salud en la región.

La información para la que soy convocado es para que esté a las ocho en punto en la entrada del hospital. Asimismo, estoy en el punto de la concentración. El transporte tiene todo el cargamento requerido para llevar a cabo con efectividad y eficiencia esta obra humanitaria. Me embarco en la parte de atrás del camión con el contingente de los profesionales de la salud. Salimos de la ciudad hacia la periferia. Tocamos una comunidad indígena, seguidamente nos regresamos hasta el sector donde se efectúa la labor contra la poliomielitis. Se estaciona el automóvil y se baja todo el equipaje requerido para la actividad de salud con el grueso número de las profesionales de la salud.
The concentration begins, most of them are children. Several tables are distributed so that vaccinations can be carried out and food and vitamins can be provided to combat child malnutrition in these communities with extreme nutritional deficiencies. The children's faces move me. They convey a message of fear, anguish, pain, and curiosity. The silence is contagious. The eyes have a faint candour of naivety and sadness. The fathers and mothers of these little people. They shake my conscience at the absence of outreach to indigenous peoples.
Comienza la concentración, en su mayoría son niñas y niños. Son distribuidas varias mesas para que se pueda realizar la vacunación y la asistencia de alimentos y vitaminas para combatir la desnutrición infantil en estas comunidades de extrema falencia nutricional. Los rostros de las niñas y los niños me conmueven. Estos transmiten un mensaje de miedo, angustia, dolor y curiosidad. El silencio es contagioso. Los ojos tienen un leve candor de ingenuidad y tristeza. Los padres y las madres de estas pequeñas personas. Me sacuden la conciencia por la ausencia del acercamiento a los pueblos indígenas.
Also, there is a malaria screening table. I like working with these women and men of health because I perceive the joy and willingness for this service. Moreover, the physical expressions of the mothers and fathers are close to reality due to the lack of contact with the indigenous communities of Bolivar state.
También, está una mesa para el despistaje de la malaria. Me agrada trabajar con estas mujeres y hombres de la salud porque percibo la alegría y la disposición para este servicio. Es más, las expresiones corporales de las madres y los padres son cercanas a la realidad por la falta de acercamiento a las comunidades indígenas del estado Bolívar.
I hear the orientation of having completed this health operation. The sector was covered promptly and efficiently. I feel the contagion of the abundant joy under the trees where this day against the global eradication of polio took place. I climb into the truck with the joy of the work accomplished in protecting these children living in extreme poverty.
Escucho la orientación de haber culminado este operativo de salud. El sector fue abarcado con prontitud y eficacia. Siento el contagio de la abundante alegría debajo de los árboles donde se efectuó esta jornada contra la erradicación mundial contra la polio. Me trepo hasta el camión con la dicha de la labor cumplida con la protección a estos niños que viven en la pobreza extrema.
