Looking against the light is usually a challenging thing to do... When you intend to take a picture, to look against the light is to have the immediate need to “think backlit”... There is a lot of instinct when the light freaks out the camera sensor and the display starts telling a series of lies of whose occurrence neither it nor anyone else is guilty, it's simply the light doing its own thing and building its own world... And yes, I'm sure that looking against the light, photographically speaking, brings up a bit of poetry... So that's what this dozen photos chosen from my recent archives are about, where the light came frontally and diaphanously into the lens of my camera, defying my intentions to make a photograph...
Mirar a contra luz es usualmente algo desafiante... Cuando se pretende hacer una foto, mirar a contraluz es tener la necesidad inmediata de "pensar en contraluz"... Hay mucho de instintivo cuando la luz enloquece al sensor de la cámara y el display comienza a decir una serie de mentiras de cuya aparición ni él ni nadie tiene la culpa, simplemente es la luz haciendo de las suyas y construyendo su propio mundo... Y sí, estoy seguro de que mirar a contra luz, fotográficamente hablando, nos trae a colación algo de poesía... Así que de esto se trata esta docena de fotos escogidas en mis archivos recientes, en donde la luz vino a parar de manera frontal y diáfana al lente de mi cámara, desafiando mis intenciones de hacer una fotografía...
Most of my photographic work happens in the mornings, I'm usually out wandering in nature or in the streets very early in the morning. So I often have to deal with the glorious luminosity of a sun close to the horizon and shoot directly into its primordial lights... I love that, I have to admit it... I know that later on it will be a headache to spend long hours editing those photos with powerful lights and complex shadows, but I love that too.... Obviously I take all these photos in RAW format and it's from there that I edit them, because I like to go back and forth with light graduations, intensity, contrast, highlights, darks, shadows and so on as if I were a kid playing a strange video game from the 80's... I don't know, but that's what comes to my mind when I do this kind of editing process for these photos.... And if I decide to turn everything to black and white, then it seems to me the perfect visual recipe, just like I did with these photos today!....
La mayoría de mi trabajo fotográfico acontece en las mañanas, suelo salir a deambular en la naturaleza o en las calles muy temprano. Así que es frecuente que me toque lidiar con la gloriosa luminosidad de un sol cercano al horizonte y disparar directamente a sus luces primigenias...Amo eso, tengo que reconocerlo... Sé que posteriormente será un quebradero de cabeza el estar largas horas editando esas fotos con luces potentes y sombras complejas, pero eso también lo amo... Obviamente hago todas estas fotos en formato RAW y es a partir de allí que las edito, pues me gusta hacer ir y venir las graduaciones de luz, intensidad, contraste, claros, obscuros, sombras y demás como si yo fuese un niño jugando un extraño video juego de los 80... No sé, pero eso es lo que se me viene a la cabeza cuando hago este tipo de procesos de edición para estas fotos... ¡Y si decido virar todo al blanco y negro, entonces me parece la receta visual perfecta, tal como hice con estas fotos de hoy!...
The twelve photos in this post were taken in natural environments, but I'm also used to doing this on the streets. And in fact, I think that soon I will propose to walk the whole town from North to South in the early hours and shoot every street facing east... This would be perhaps an interesting and challenging record of street backlights... So I'll surely see you soon with the result...
Las doce fotos en esta publicación fueron realizadas en entornos naturales, pero también acostumbro hacer esto en las calles. Y de hecho, creo que próximamente me propondré recorrer el pueblo enteramente de Norte a Sur en horas tempranas y disparar a cada calle mirando al este... Este sería quizás un registro interesante y desafiante de contraluces callejeros... Así que nos veremos pronto seguramente con el resultado...

ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL NOTE: Photographs captured with my Nikon D7000 DSLR camera in RAW format, then processed in Adobe Camera RAW for adjustments regarding light, sharpening, contrast and depth... They were then exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape 3.6.3.
NOTA TÉCNICA ADICIONAL: Fotografias capturadas con mi cámara DSLR Nikon D7000 en formato RAW, procesadas posteriormente en Adobe Camera RAW para ajustes relativos a luz, afilado, contraste y profundidad... Luego fueron exportadas a formato JGP sobre el cual se llevaron a cabo modificaciones menores como enderezado y agregado de marcas de agua usando PhotoScape 3.6.3.

Mi familia es de Montalbán, así que cuando ví el título la curiosidad pudo más, pero lo mejor fue la impresión, pues me encantaron todas las fotos!
