Today is a nice Sunday, fairly calm and not too hot... After having breakfast together, my wife and I are reminiscing about our "skirmishes"’ that happen when she asks me to go to the grocery store to stock up on some supplies or also when I go to the bakery to buy the bread of the day... Then, every time this happens, I usually take my camera and my wife says things like: "Is it really impossible for you to go without your camera?"... "It will take you hours to come back with the groceries, if you remember to buy them and don't come back without them!"... So usually I smile and answer "Some streets, some photos" and I go to the street with the intention of doing the shopping, but also of coming back with some photos in the memory of my camera... This has become a kind of ritual, by now we both find it quite funny to repeat this scene whenever we can...
Hoy es un buen Domingo, bastante tranquilo y con no demasiado calor... Después de desayunar juntos, mi esposa y yo nos dedicamos a recordar nuestras "escaramuzas" que suceden cuando ella me pide que vaya al abasto para surtirnos de algunos víveres o también al ir a la panadería a comprar el pan del día... Entonces, cada vez que esto sucede, yo suelo tomar mi cámara y mi esposa dice cosas como: ¿Realmente se te hace imposible ir sin la cámara?... ¡Tardarás horas en volver con la compra, si es que acaso recuerdas comprar las cosas y no regresas sin ellas!... Entonces yo últimamente sonrío y le contesto "Algunas calles, algunas fotos" y me marcho a la calle con la intención de hacer las compras, pero también de volver con algunas fotos en la memoria de mi cámara... Esto se ha convertido en una especie de ritual, a estas alturas a ambos ya nos parece bastante gracioso repetir esta escena cada vez que se pueda...

I think I selected many of these photos precisely because I took them during those comings and goings to the street when my wife asks me to go shopping for groceries for home... This is a small town relatively far from many things and with an economy devastated by the crisis. So most of the people here are on the streets trying to earn their daily subsistence. I guess that's why even today, it's still a bit strange to see a guy taking pictures while walking home with a bag of groceries. Everyone here knows me, but they're still curious about what I do, and it's not unusual for someone to ask me questions like: What can you find to photograph in the middle of the day on a Monday in the streets?... I smile and reply: See my photos, then you will know!... And this is true, I look at these photographs and I realise that there is no time or day better than another to capture a street image...
Creo que seleccioné muchas de estas fotos precisamente por el hecho de que las hice durante esas idas y venidas a la calle cuando mi esposa me pide ir a comprar víveres para el hogar... Este es un pueblo pequeño y relativamente alejado de muchas cosas y con una economía diezmada por la crisis económica. Así que la mayoría de la gente aquí está en la calle procurando ganarse el sustento diario. Supongo que a eso se debe que aún por hoy, sea algo extraño ver a un tipo tomando fotografías mientras regresa con una bolsa con víveres a su casa. Aquí todos me conocen, pero sigue causándoles curiosidad lo que hago, no es extraño que alguien me pregunte cosas como: ¿Qué cosa puedes encontrar para fotografiar a pleno mediodía un lunes en las calles?... Yo sonrío y les respondo: ¡Ve mis fotos, así lo sabrás!... Y esto es cierto, miro estas fotografías y me percato de que no hay una hora o un día mejor que otro para capturar una imagen callejera...

On other occasions, when my wife asks me to go out and buy things in the street in the middle of the day, when temperatures can exceed 36°C and the sun is like a hammer hitting my head, I take my camera, put an old straw hat on my head and shout: If I have to die of heat stroke, let it be by taking pictures! :)) Then my wife can't help laughing out loud... This is the best relationship therapy you can have! :))
Otras veces, cuando mi esposa me pide que salga a comprar cosas a la calle a pleno mediodía, momento durante el cual las temperaturas pueden sobrepasar los 36°C y el sol es como un matillo golpeando en la cabeza, yo tomo mi cámara, me coloco un viejo sombrero de paja en mi cabeza y grito: ¡Si he de morir por un golpe de calor, que sea tomando fotos! :)) Entonces mi esposa no puede evitar reír a carcajadas... ¡Esta es la mejor terapia de pareja que se puede tener! :))

Yes, that day I stopped for a long time at the old abandoned house of Uncle Luis (my mother's great-uncle in fact) who many years ago left town to seek his fortune, returned as a young man with enough money and having studied but found his house empty because his wife, with whom he exchanged letters during the almost five years of his absence, had fled with her lover a few days before Luis' imminent arrival in town.... As far as I remember hearing, that was at the beginning of the last century... You see?... This town is a lot of stories happening every day, the old stories and also the new ones...
Sí, ese día me detuve un buen rato en la vieja casa abandonada del Tío Luis (tío-abuelo de mi madre en realidad) quien hace muchos años atrás se fue del pueblo a buscar fortuna, volvió siendo un joven con bastante dinero y habiendo estudiado pero encontró su casa vacía pues su esposa, con quien intercambiaba cartas durante los casi cinco años de su ausencia, había huido con su amante pocos días antes de la inminente llegada de Luis al pueblo... Según recuerdo haber escuchado, eso fue a principios del siglo pasado... ¿Lo ven?... Este pueblo es un montón de historias sucediendo a diario, las historias viejas y también las nuevas...

ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL NOTE: Photographs captured with my Nikon D7000 DSLR camera in RAW format, then processed in Adobe Camera RAW for adjustments regarding light, sharpening, contrast and depth... They were then exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape 3.6.3.
NOTA TÉCNICA ADICIONAL: Fotografias capturadas con mi cámara DSLR Nikon D7000 en formato RAW, procesadas posteriormente en Adobe Camera RAW para ajustes relativos a luz, afilado, contraste y profundidad...
