The Hubble Space Telescope has focused its razor-sharp gaze on one of the most beautiful and photogenic galaxies in the universe, the Sambariro Galaxy, Messier 104 (M104). The galaxy is identified by a brilliant white, bulbous core surrounded by dusty streets that form the galaxy's spiral structure. As seen from Earth, the galaxy is almost tilted to the edge.
We see it only six degrees north of its equator. This magnificent galaxy is named Sombrero because of its wide-brimmed Mexican cap.
At a relatively bright bright intensity of +8, the M104 is completely out of sight of the naked eye and can be easily seen through small binoculars. Sombrero is located on the southern edge of the galaxy-rich Virgo cluster and is one of the largest objects in the group, equivalent to 800 billion suns. The galaxy is 50,000 light-years away and 30 million light-years from Earth.
