She looked at the coffin and sighed. She felt sad, she had never cried so much in her life. She wished her father would hug her, but she restrained herself from asking him as she watched him talk to a close friend; he too would miss her mother as much or more than she did. It had all happened so fast that it was hard to process. It seemed like yesterday the move had happened, where Antonella's only task was to pick up her things despite everything that needed to be packed.

—We have to move closer to the city for your mom," her father repeated every time she asked him why they had to move, "she will need the best doctors, everything will be fine Antonella you will see, it is temporary so we will only take some belongings", he told her while she reluctantly continued with the hard work of collecting her toys.
While she put away her favorite stuffed animals, her brother was crying in the crib, how she hated those cries when he was hungry, but she loved to kiss his little feet and at that moment it occurred to her that living with her aunt and uncle she would never be able to do it again. She would die of shame.
The day came and he said goodbye to his home as they slowly drove away in the truck. He wanted his mother to get well soon, so he could go back to swimming in the river near his home like they did every Saturday; it's one of the things he would miss the most.
In the meantime, he stood in front of a house with a simple white-painted fence. It had been a three-hour drive to get there. A tall, gray-haired man came out to greet them and embraced his mother with special affection.
—He said, "Sister dear, I am glad to see you.....
Then he looked at the beautifully coiffed brunette girl and smiled at her.
—Come in, I will help you with your things," and they slowly brought down all the suitcases with laughter.
She decided she liked the place and ventured out to do cartwheels on that beautiful lawn. Soon she saw a curly-haired white girl come out of the back door. She was carrying a book in her hands and seemed to be heading to where she was.

—"Do you want to see it?" asked Jocabed, smiling, "It's about animals, do you like them?"
Antonella nodded pitifully, and they sat down on the swing to look at the book. After an hour a gray-haired lady came to greet Antonella. She was her uncle's wife and Jocabed's mother. She remembered them very little because she had only met them two or three times. So little by little, she felt that she was getting to know them again
The girls became very good friends, they could spend all day running, jumping, playing pranks, and playing with their little brothers, who were the babies of the family. Their parents prevented them from playing in the house because of the mess they caused.

Other than that they spoiled them and tried to keep them from being sad about the bad news. The cancer was advanced in Antonella's mother and they had to operate on her as soon as possible.
But the girls were more worried and saddened by it than the adults could realize. Many times they would talk about it in secret to get it off their chest. Antonella had faith and prayed together with Jocabed for her mother's healing.
A ray of hope was the success of the operation, even though it had been more complex than expected. When Antonella's mother was discharged, the doctor gave specific instructions for her care. Everyone was involved in her postoperative care and cooperated to take care of her, including the girls.
There were bad days when she was quite delicate and the girls tried to make her happy by any means possible, so that she could recover her spirits. Antonella never tired of motivating her and firmly believed that her mother would soon recover and they would go back to being the happy family they were before.

Two weeks later, the results of the medical tests were not very encouraging. The cancer had spread to other areas of the body. Everyone agreed that because of the severity of the diagnosis they could not return home, yet.
Antonella's father had to arrange a room in his grandmother's house (which was very close by) so that his wife would be more comfortable and have a place for their children to sleep together, since his brother-in-law's house was too small for both families. It hurt the girls to no longer live together, but they still saw each other every day.
As the weeks went by, Antonella's mother's health deteriorated more and more. The doctor no longer gave her much hope. His last recommendations were to make her feel as well as possible.
The girls never knew what the doctor had said. But they watched as she was given sedatives to endure the pain. Jocabed remembers that in the last days of her aunt's life, she could not talk to her because of much she was sedated; she would have liked to say goodbye.
But her aunt departed this world without being able to say goodbye. They all cried for hours, and barely had the strength to make preparations. The only thing that kept them going was to give a farewell to a mother, wife, and aunt that she deserved.
At the funeral the girls cried a lot, they only kept the hope that someday they would see her again. Antonella, after seeing the grief of those present, decided that she would not cry anymore, even though it hurt her more than anyone else the loss of her mother. She would be strong for her father, for her brother and for all those who loved and supported her mother until the end. Life would be very different from that moment on, but she knew that the Creator would be her comfort.

Eighteen years have passed and I still look at Antonella with pride. Her life has not been easy but she has done well in the end. She has a beautiful family and I hope she does well in life. In the meantime, here I am writing the story I lived with her. I think I can let it go now and I can only say: See you soon, Aunt.
I hope you liked my publication, you can leave your comments and suggestions at the end of this post. Greetings and a big hug. See you next time.

—Hermana querida, me alegra verte...
