For those new players who are thinking that they cannot compete in Silver without spending a fortune, pay careful attention to this post! You do not need leveled cards to battle in silver - it only makes it easier.
What you need is a strategy.
There are many different rulesets, splinter limitations, and mana caps. You need to have some good strategies for only a few of these to get the wins you need on a daily quest throughout the day.
I got a water quest today, and I was darn chagrined since I traded my LVL5 Bortus yesterday as part of a larger deal for LVL tokens. (check out @psyberx people! I can't wait!)
But I didn't want to reset the quest, because what I hate most is the life quest and you can only reset once per day. So I looked at the cards I had and said - "I think I can do this".
Here is my first battle:

I use basically the same set up for all of my wins, and rely heavily on mostly the same cards.
Firstly, the Summoner - Alric. This guy is great because magic is generally overpowered as it bypasses both shield and armor, as well as making Mylor's thorns useless.
But of course we need the right cards to align with his bonus, and that means some pretty good magic cards. I will admit, I am relying heavily on an epic card - the Lobstradamus - a lvl1 card is going for just over $38 dollars right now and gives 200 collection power.
This is a very unique monsters as a magic tank, the shield ability at lvl1 will help it stand up to opponents and protect our weaker magic cards.
A great new reward card that I just recently got my hands on is the Venari Wavesmith. With it giving protect to all allies from first level, its well worth the 5 mana spent to put it into play, since magic cards are generally weak to physical attacts and teams attacking backline or opportunists hitting the middle will have to face the shield first, giving us some more surviveability in the back.
And don't forget our Crustacean King, I don't actually have the card but am able to put him into play as part of the starter deck. His only job is to heal up the Lobstradamus to make him live even longer.

Here is the last battle for the quest.

Opponent's Team
Again we can see how well it performs against another meta - the overpowering Malric power teams.
On this very last win I got pushed up to Gold 3, I was battling in Silver 1 this whole time, for reference.
Upon winning, I picked up another Venari Wavesmith, which was a joy since the card has been so instrumental in me making these wins against primarily physical heavy teams.
Remember to look at your opponents previous battles to get an idea of the cards/teams they are likely to be using - don't be afraid to not go for a quest win in an unsuitable match up. A Bortus/Void or Magic reflect team would probably eat this set up for lunch!
I hope this shows you that you do not need to be overpowered to get wins in Silver and even start moving up to higher leagues! Of course new players are restrained by their collection power, but once in silver you will be earning (with some luck) cards on every quest and at season end, and continuing to grow your collection with the DEC earned as well.
