I've Stopped Playing Ranked Battles

in Splinterlands4 days ago

In this video, I discuss the why I'm no longer playing ranked battles in Splinterlands.

Before you jump to any conclusions, just know that I am actually playing the game MORE right now than ever before. I've probably played more battles this past week than I have the past 3 months.

And it is all due to the new Training mode!

I love being able to go try out combos and synergies using ghost cards and now that I can play an unlimited amount - I actually am. One of the biggest downsides from changing the energy system (previously ECR - Energy Capture Rate) was that once you are out of energy you can no longer play the game in any capacity unless you have a friend you can challenge.

With the new training mode launch, you can now play against a computer - one that is actually quite challenging on hard mode - and use your collection or ghost cards. I've been playing non-stop for the pure enjoyment of it.

Let me say that again - I'm playing more these days for ZERO rewards!

That should show how much fun Splinterlands is as an actual game. Sure, I have my bot covering all my ranked battles in Wild Format but I could easily jump in if I wanted to. What I'm enjoying is the fact that there is a mode to just enjoy the beauty and strategy of the game without having to worry about 'maximizing your ROI'.

What's crazy is if anything, playing with some these cards using the Ghost Cards makes me actually want to own them for the long term. Nidhoggr is one that comes to mind as I've very much enjoyed learning the strategy around using him as a summoner. When it works it's a beautiful thing and the fact there Rebellion cards in general are quite scarce is making me consider grabbing a copy.

We'll see how things shape up over time but I'm very excited about this mode and now actively look forward to new cards and sets coming out. Conclave Arcana cannot come soon enough!

Since your bot is still playing in wild, then it means you're playing, it's just that you're not playing by yourself.
So there's no incentive to play the training mode, but since you're enjoying, learning and having fun, you'll get better and come back stronger.

I agree, the training mode is actually really cool and fun to play. But the problem is you just get no rewards. 😂

Sure, I could run my bot in Wild. But I have to say, when I play modern for myself I get way more rewards than in Wild.

I have the same experience, on the one side it confirms that Splinterlands actually is a really fun game but at the same time, it shows that all the choices made in favor of the economy always come at the cost of fun and gameplay. What needs to be done is to bring the training experience to the actual real game so it benefits the actual asset values which should be quite easy to do.

This is cool to see another view to the game, fun first!
I love building my rewards deck and be competitive against human players but still like what you do, because every one is different and this shows splinterlands is a place for everyone
