In this video, I discuss why I believe the upcoming Survival Mode in Splinterlands is going to be an absolute game changer.
There are 2 main reasons for this:
The first of which is that it will truly reward deep collection and card ownership in a way Land never could. The reason is because Land offers utility to older cards that people generally don't want to use in battle. Survival Mode takes the opposite approach. Now having multiple copies of top tier cards in the meta will be beneficial because you will have more opportunities to play them.
The second reason is that the meta within Survival mode is going to be very unpredictable. Sure, there are still meta cards out there but even if the team wins, if those cards fall in battle they are on cooldown for a bit. This means that players won't be able to just spam meta teams over and over again unless they have all of these top tier cards. This makes every battle even more unpredictable in a good way - both for you and your opponent.
Modern and Wild formats will still have their place and be the premiere areas in which players can show off their skills, but the economic and gameplay factors around Survival Mode have me very excited for it's launch.

I think survival is a great concept, and can have positive impacts on the ecosystem. But I have two major concerns:
It will allow bots. We all know this just invites exploits. How much match volume will be 1 bcx teams, meaningless rating inflation, and extraction?
How time consuming it will be. First of all, a whale with a good survival deck will have so much cards to work through that playing this personally might not be feasible. Scholaring is ok I guess, but I wish this wasn't so incentived. Don't know what would fix this though. Additionally, wait times might be overly long in the latter parts of a season, again promoting botting - a bot doesn't care if it waits twenty minutes for a match.
I hope that the team has taken sufficient measures to make this a success!

I hope that cards will not be in cooldown for long. a day at most.
I think level 1 cards will be on cooldown for the season.
I'm definitely glad that it's coming, but I'm not sure if I personally will play it... but I'm extremely curious to see what impact it will have on the Modern and Wild leagues.
I will probably use extra cards for it to see how it goes.
Since the rules of survival modes can be bendable: the way players would want it, I guess it'll be exciting. Like you said it would probably be more enjoyable for players who already have deep deck.
I still think modern and wild will continue to thrive because of the SPS rewards.
Wow, it looks very difficult.
I think it will be another flop.
With this cooldown they have overcomplicated things.
All they needed to do is distribute "survival energy" based on the number of cards in your deck.

wanna bet? :)
Are you betting against Survival Mode?
No I am not. I just don’t like it. I know whose idea is this and I know it is largely unnecessary
