Why I think the salt system should be the next major land release

in Splinterlands7 months ago (edited)

Grain LP's are on the mav server and are coming next on the main server. I was told by a dev on discord that the next things to be released are titles and leaderboards.

But what after that?

Here I will make my case for why the salt system should be the next major land release.

If any of you have not read the land 2.0 white paper part 4 it describes the salt system.
https://peakd.com/splinterlands/@splinterlands/the-secret-of-praetoria-phase-2-whitepaper-reveal-part-4-storage-markets-and-desalinization

To summarize the idea, the concept is that the land of Praetoria is salty and that is called the Salinization Rate (SR) and you have to remove the salt using desalinization crystals (DS). The more salt you remove from your region, the less taxes, the less trading fees you pay and the higher your land plots produce because you get a production bonus the more salt you remove from the land. I really like this concept/design, I think it was well thought out.

I'm not a developer so I don't know how much work is involved to implement the salt system but from my player viewpoint the salt system seems to me, to be the clear winner in several categories as the easiest/most satisfying to the players - next major land release.

To me land seems like it is complicated and interconnected (which is good) so the problem with releasing it is - How do you release it in parts in such a way that keeps players interested in it, interacting with it and wanting the next release, but still at the same time dovetails with the current 3 game formats (ranked, brawls and tournaments) and the teams revenue and manpower situation?

How do you release only 1 part of a system that is so interconnected? It's almost like you have to release it all at once or things will not work properly.

I think the salt system is the answer. The thing that makes it easier to release all of the other land releases in pieces so that it is not too much of a workload burden.

  • DS crystals can be put in the glint shop purchaseable by players with surveyed land plots & soulbound for the time being (glint, credits, DEC) (glint shop is already in game)

  • The grain LP will be in game at that time so players will be able to lower their swap trading fees by contributing DS crystals to their region (1st LP is already in game)

  • Players will also be able to lower their taxes with DS crystals contributions (taxes are already in game)

  • Players will be able to boost their plot production (3 plot types already in game)

At that point the only question remains is, "what will players do with the resulting salt tokens that they were rewarded with by contributing DS crystals to their region?"

They can be used for promo events in the interim while the rest of land is being developed.
Recently, a player asked the team on the town hall if the idea of a skin that could be purchased that would also trade one stat for another by 1 point (e.g. +1 magic for -1 speed) was a good idea and the CEO expressed interest in that.

During promo events the event can let you temporarily use their "alchemy lab" to combine salt with potions to generate enhanced potions that will give you a higher chance of gold foil versions of the promo skinned card.

There are older players with thousands of potions that are frustrated that they can't do anything with them. Let them combine those with salt and put those enhanced potions on the secondary market during the lead up to the promo event.
