Hello, splinter-folks. I hope you all are doing well.
Today, I will share a battle in the Bronze tier of Wild Leagues. This battle features a unique take on strategy, as the rules of the battle offered a completely different take on the conventional way of play, making the user of more monsters possible. Thus, it is good enough to highlight in a post.
Without further ado, let's begin!
Battle Conditions
The mana cap is 24 and there are 5 summoners to choose from: Fire, Nature, Life, Death, and Dragon.
Battle Rules:-
- Close range: All ranged attackers can attack from the first position of the deck.
Keeping the mana cap and the battle rules in mind, I decided to use a Death summoner that would give me a high-level monster. I completely want to ignore the battle rules and will make a deck that has high damage.
Battle Details
Summoner: Thaddius Brood(Ability: Decrease in HP and Magic Damage by 1 for all enemy monsters)(Level 5).
Tank: Cursed Windeku(Ability: Thorns, Heal).
Melee Attackers: Arachne Thug(Ability: Trample, Reach), Uraeus(Ability: Sneak, Poison), Silent Sha-vi(Ability: Sneak).
Blocked Melee Attacker: Corpse Fiend(No Ability)
I aimed to hit him from the front and back with high damage. To stretch out the deck, I used a monster with 0 mana should my monsters be in the back lines. Moreover, the monsters I used were very efficient in this limited mana cap.
My overall damage per round is 15 with 3 healing.
Now, for the opposition's turn.
Summoner: Thaddius Brood(Ability: Decrease in HP and Magic Damage by 1 for all enemy monsters)(Level 2)
Tank: Carrion Shade(Ability: Flying).
Non-Attacker: Rifwing(Ability: Flying, Scavenge),
Melee Attackers: Silent Sha-vi(Ability: Sneak), Uraeus(Ability: Sneak), Fenmoor Haunt(Ability: Sneak).
Ranged Attacker: Ravenhood Warden(Ability: Protect).
His strategy was to attack me from the back lines with almost every attacker possible. And to continue this barrage, he used a monster that granted +2 shield to every allied unit and 2 monsters that had flying ability; it would dodge most incoming melee attacks and even if they did connect, the shield would be used up before their HP. Behind the tank, he used a monster that had flying ability and would increase in HP according to the number of monsters that would fall. That way, he was sure that he would last longer in the battle and eliminate my units from the back.
Major Events
The battle began with a 5 v 6 fixture.
In the second third of the round, the first monster fell. It was his sneak at the end of the deck. Thus, the battle came to a 5 v 5.
In the final third of the round, the second monster to fall was my sneak attacker so the battle was a 5 v 4. Both these times, Riftwing scavenged HP twice.
Near the end of the round, his tank fell making it a 4 v 4.
At the end of the round, my second sneak attacker fell making it a 4 v 3.
At the start of the round, the poison took its effect on Ravenhood and so the shield fell off from all of his units. His Riftwing gained yet another HP.
At the end of the round, my Corpse Fiend fell thanks to his sneak attacker, and Riftwing gained yet another HP.
In the first half of the round, my Thug fell. That only leaves my tank, his 2 attackers, and a scavenger as things looked dire for me.
In the second half of the round, his scavenger finally fell leaving his 2 attackers against my tank that can heal.
In the second half of the round, his Sha-vi fell and so it came to a classic 1 v 1 where I finally had the upper hand.
Finally, in the second half, his Uraeus gets hit with the thorns after it attacks my tank. That way, I got the victory which was pretty distant from me throughout the battle.
Results
My plan to stretch out my deck by the 0 mana unit almost cost me the battle as it helped him gain another HP and did not serve me in any way. But, I knew that once every monster in my backlines fell, his overall damage would not be sufficient to take out my tank as it had healing ability. Also, there was no frontal attack so my tank was in a pretty good place.
