To be honest, I haven't even thought in this direction yet.
That the developers have costs that need to be covered is indisputable. But I didn't expect these costs to be so high.
Apparently, not enough money is collected through fees.
Of course, I ask myself whether server capacities could not be used more effectively, especially with an average of 7k players.
That the value of the cards depends on supply and demand is of course logical. The developers themselves have earned money from sales and rentals, or do I have that wrong in my head.
Basically, there should be a healthy interest in being active.
Unfortunately, what I can't understand is that no Battlepass has been introduced yet. It was repeatedly mentioned here on peakD that this is a good idea and that cosmetic content etc. could be introduced.
That would be a simple idea to gain people's support without forcing anyone.
The idea of paying for battles doesn't really make sense to me, in my opinion it drives too many players away.
On the other hand, why not offer the possibility to play "free" with a small prize pool and "prime" for an entry fee somehow weekly or so.
There are enough possibilities.
The important thing is that the players become very satisfied again. With increasing satisfaction, the number of players also increases as a consequence.
I can't really say whether the developers have to/should change anything internally, I don't know the circumstances well enough for that.
But when I look at what has developed around Splinterlands, I can see that the community is definitely up for it. Maybe not for everything, but basically there are a lot of good people here. You have to be able to make use of that.
