Splinterlands Challenge — Grimbardun Fighter VS Olivia

Hello everyone this time I will be participating in this Splinterlands Challenge, where I will be showing you a modern ranked battle where only melee units are allowed.

First let's talk a little bit about Grimbardun Fighter, who is a common neutral unit that costs 9 mana, one of the melee units I will be using this battle.

Fighter starts with the Shield ability, taking 50% less damage from physical attacks. Take 0 damage from physical attacks of 1 power.

At level 3, he gains the Corrosive Ward ability, which reduce -2 to the attacker's armor and max armor when hit by a melee attack.

And at level 6 he gains the Reflection Shield ability, so he can't take damage from Thorns (does 2 damage to melee attackers), Corrosive Ward and Blast damage.

All three abilities of this card are very good against melee units, so I like to use it when I know the opponent will likely play melee units.

Unfortunately, he does not have the Void ability (he takes less damage from magic attacks) that his ally Grimbardun Smith has. Therefore, he is very vulnerable to magic attacks.

Currently, a max level Grimbardun Fighter (regular foil) costs $60 (each BCX $0.15).
And at level 1, it costs $0.18.

There is only one max level in Golden foil, which costs $112.86.
And a level 3 golden costs $3.

BATTLE

The rulesets for this battle will be: Super Sneak, meaning that all melee units will have Sneak, targeting the enemy unit in the last position for attacks, of course, except those that will be on the frontline. Also, as I mentioned before, only melee units will be allowed in this battle due to the Up close & Personal ruleset. Additionally, all units will have True Strike attacks, meaning they cannot miss attacks.

In this batle I decide to choose the reliable Eternal Tofu, one of the greatest summoners currently. As you may know, it is especially good against melee units thanks to the fact that it grants the Thorns ability (melee attackers take 2 of pyshical damage when attacked) to all allies. And this time I chose the left-tactic, granting the Corrosive Ward and Divine Shield (ignores the first damage) to three of my units.

Grimbardun Fighter in the first position, ready to fight melee creatures.

In the second position, Venator Kinjo, who is especially good when my units have the thorns ability, since he has the Amplify ability, so thorns will do 1 more damage. It also has the Reflection Shield, Immunity and Slow (reduces the speed of enemies by 1) abilites. Additionally, he cannot be attacked directly like Olivia's Opportunity attacks, thanks to his Camouflage ability.

In the third position, Jared Scar who has Piercing attacks (damage that exceeds the target's armor goes to the unit's health), and whenever he defeats a unit, he will gain +1 to all stats thanks to his Bloodlust ability.

Halfling Refugee in the fourth position, excellent top unit that for only 1 mana does a lot, has great stats and heals himself each turn for a third max of its health.

Finally, I put two 0 mana units, Fungus Fiend and Soul Fiend in the fourth and fifth positions respectively. They will be attacked first by enemy units, protecting my other units a bit.

In the first round, Soul Fiend attacks and is defeated by the Thorns effect, which deals 3 damage. Fungus Fiend is also defeated by the enemy Golden Runi. And Jared Scar defeats the enemy Blinding Reflector, so he gains +1 to all stats.

In the second round, Olivia attacks and destroys my Halfling Refugee. Jared Scar then defeats the enemy Runi, but it is resurrected due to its Rebirth ability. And enemy Gargoya Scrapper is defeated when it attacks Jared due to the thorns effect.

In the third round, Jared Scar is defeated by the magic attack of Olivia. And the enemy Halfling Refugee is defeated by Grimbardun Smith.

In the fourth round, my Venator Kinjo definitively defeats the enemy Runi.

In the fifth to seventh round, Grimbardun and Olivia (with Venator Kinjos) attack each other, but neither is defeated.

In the eighth round, Olivia is finally defeated by a damaged Grimbardun Fighter with 1 HP. And in the ninth round, the last enemy Venator Kinjo is also defeated by Grimbardun Fighter, ending the battle.

Since only melee units were allowed in this battle, both the opponent and I used Eternal Tofu as a summoner, one of the best at dealing with melee units due to the thorns ability.

The opponent destroyed my backline units pretty quickly and when my Jared Scar was defeated I thought I was going to lose the battle. But my Grimbardun Fighter really surprised me, managing to withstand the enemy attacks. An honorable mention for my Venator Kinjo who destroyed the enemy Runi, thanks to his Camouflage, otherwise I would have lost the battle.

This was a very close battle, where everything was decided between the units, Grimbardun Fighter (my side) and Olivia (opponent) on who defeated the other first. Olivia almost managed to destroy my Grimbardun Fighter, but my unit was able to survive with only 1 HP, winning the battle after destroying Olivia and Venator.

That's all for now guys, if you haven't played Splinterlands yet, you can join with my referral link. See you on the battlefield!
