Personally I've made sure that I have enough grain to cover everything I need. I've basically got 25% more grain than I actually use... and I've been putting spare grain and all the stone I've been mining into the LPs. When I'll eventually need other resources I'll be able to swap my grain and stone (or DEC) for them.
