Trust @goldmatters
Let me first make one thing abundantly clear: This is not a roast of Goldmatters. I have never interacted one-on-one with Goldmatters, but I feel like I know him well. I am also quite certain Goldmatters knows who I am. I am deeply appreciative of what he does for Splinterlands and the community. He is doing real community service. He was leading the Splinterlands campaign alone on Twitter, when it was twitter. He continue to carry the flag of the game high for us, and I am deeply thankful to him as a player and as an investor.
I also like his AI art skill. I must say it is often spectacular to say the least. Only bravetofu can probably compete with Goldmatters. As an investor he is also deeply invested in the game, with 19M + CP he owns a lot of cards, number 49 within the top card holders, based on Splintercards. So his heart is in the right place and he is also invested in the game.
But, dude, with all due respect, that doesn't mean when we critically comment on an action by the team, we are shitting on the idea.
I strongly believe, when we critically comment on something, we must provide an alternative. I also believe it is easy to shoot down an idea, and it is much more difficult to create one.
Matt is not perfect. He is the first person to say that he is not perfect. Also this idea is not his, it is PJs, and PJ did ran it by a lot of us in the past. So I for one is not surprised. I was uncomfortable before with this idea, and I am unconfortable and skeptical with this idea now. I have no problem with a new game mode. I have problem with how it is implemented.
In fact, Royal, reached out to me, and I have provided direct feedback to him. This is his summary of my feedback:
- Not a fan of bots
- seasons of rewards to see what things look like wouldn't hurt economy
- Would prefer SB cards are out unbound ok, but no sb
- Hesitantly might be ok if we can sustain:
A. Price of rentals increases & card utilization
B. increase in Price of SPS
C. increase Price of SPS rentals
Notice: there is skepticism here, but no negativity.
This is what I mentioned directly and publicly to Matt:
For years every single update or change was designed to curtail bot and finally with the introduction of wild pass we ultimately stopped the leak. Why open up a whole league and test the same hypothesis that: “if you let people exploit they will exploit”. We already know this!
So I know the result of this experiment already. No need to listen to me, because I am could be full of negativity. This is what @davemccoy says:
I think there could be a danger of having this experiment depending on the vision motivating it. If its truly just a test to see how things will work, then I don't mind a test at all.
What he means by, if this is just a test, why do we need a reward pool for it?
There are many ways
It doesn't mean only your way is right and positive and the others are wrong. Saying others are wrong on discord and hive may also be considered a negative campaign? What do you say to that? Mind you all the people at hive that you were shitting on are funding the salary for the marketing budget for splinterlands. Just saying.
I am not good at making memes, and I know you are. Please feel free to make a meme about this post and share it on X. I am sure you and the community will feel better.
Again, I appreciate what you do for us, but no one is right all the time :)
Cheers!
I think @goldmatters is awesome as well, and I think you did a very good job of explaining that too AZ.
Everyone has ideas of what is good and bad, many times 2 great people can see things completely differently. Its life.
I also agree that both of you giving your thoughts on any subject is not only "ok to do", but I also think its valuable. I've been on opposite sides with each of you on many topics, and I've been on the same side too.
In the end, I respect both of you to make points that you feel are necessary, because I know you both love the game and just as importantly the community. So thank you both.
I'm glad you are both here and strong in both your will to succeed and impact to the community. Not everyone likes everyone, but there's no denying that both of you care!
I agree with you Dave. I think it is okay to have different opinions and also okay to communicate that.
I agree that sometimes we, as a community, can get a little feral... we've been through the wringer though, so understand why we get that way.
With that being said - I also agree with GM because we are also prone to knee jerk reactions... due to the aforementioned wringer... but we shouldn't be so quick to say "Contrary Opinions automatically equate to 'shitting on the idea'."
It's a fine line to walk but critical thoughts and opinions upon these things are how we keep a proper check/balance system...
However, I am a firm believer in "it is not what you say... it is how you say it."
GM is the classic example of knee jerk action. Only difference is that his knee always jerks if someone is critical to the team. I think that is a good thing, because there is a whole lot of people that are opposite of that.
No offense to GM but I think that by saying that people are shitting on an idea just because people critically comment on something without providing a proper response, in itself is an act of shitting on those comments. It's understandable for people to have different opinions about things but if someone claims that an opinion is wrong, they should provide an argument that would backup those claims.
As someone that does not even have a complete modern collection for my account, I know that I won't be able to participate on the survival mode but do not mind a new game mode as long as it was properly implemented and avoid potential exploits.
yes, that mode is not designed for people like you, in fact it is infact a max to 100 "real people" and their bots who will play that game mode
We are a big passionate community with lots of different opinions but all for the good of Splinterlands. I'm not a fan of bots myself. I think the games should be left to players/people who enjoy the game and not bots who are just there to extract rewards.
Yes, but it is not bots that are the problem. It is some people who are reward extractors, that are behind those bots who are the problem
I've kind of lost track of everything that is going on with SPL. I got kind of tired of the complaining and the poor decisions so I stopped checking. I've just been having faith lately that they are going to do what is best for the community.
Yeah, and you are not alone.
I haven't stopped complaining though, whether they listen or not :)
Haha :)
Critical replies and comments are essential before implementing an idea.
It's the feedback devoid of personal emotions amd based on facts that helps a creator make the best choices.
Thought that was quite common sense 😂
It is. I am critical, whether people like it or not :)
I really dont follow the updates and rules on splinterlands I just focus on what I love best which is playing the game. I just think it's their business and they know what's right for them but just as you said no one is perfect all the time. Seeking opinions from members to know what they want before carry out an upgrade should be good as well
If that was true, situation of the compnay might be somewhat better ... :)
H.mmmmm
:-)
Splinterlands rants. I think I don't know anything here for now
in that case, not a good idea to comment
Hopefully Gold Matters doesn't get upset and leave, but yes there should be discussion of these types of things especially when there is a real danger of bot exploits.
nah, no such issue here I think
