Introduction

This is my third post about the 6 years anniversary of splinterlands.

In he first blog i wrote about how i found spinterlands and how my gaming and investment strategy are. To read this back see: blog 1.

In the second blogt i wrote about some beginner tips and my strategies about all rule sets and some abilities. To read that blog back see: blog 2

In this blog i want to deepen out why i stick around this game. Lately there is many trash talk about the game its progress and assets value. Still for me this is the single most played game in years why is that....

I can divide that into separate topics.

  • The game
  • The community
  • The tokenomics

The game

First and foremost its the game why I'm still here. For some its just an auto battler, if you look at the game a bit better it has lots of strategies. Yeah there is RNG (random number generation / luck) but often if you look further there are always some other options you could have played to put the RNG in your favor. I spent many hours playing Hearthstone and Magic The Gathering. IMHO, Splinterland is on par with these other games and even in some aspects better. One thing i really like is the quick battles format in a few minutes. In MTG it often takes a very long time to play one match. This is in my opinion also the main issue of Gods Unchained. This game i have played for a while, for me to much a copy of hearthstone.

I do not consider myself a very good player. I got chaos units maxed and some of the summoners and play in gold. With my deck it should be possible to play in diamond. Still missing a lot of key card of rebellion, this will slowly grow overtime.

Improvement in art over the years:

There are many thing changed over the years i cannot write about the alpha/beta and untamed/dice era.
But what I see sometimes on X (by goldmatters) the website and battle layout has evolved over time. Overall the the graphics are really improved to a quality game imo.
I like the direction where the game design is going to. More and more small animation are added, bringing the game alive. e.g. in the battle screen they just added small video:

At splinterfest, live splinterlands event in las vegas, they showed some examples of battle 2.0 really looking forward to this new era...

One thing you can clearly see the improvements in card designs. Every edition is an improvement in mine opinion.

Lore

Almost every so not every unit has its own lore playing part in the bigger story.

To read the complete lore about pretoria world and its characters you do that in splinterlore

If you have not read enough yet, splinterlands regularly blogs about fraction. Or about the lore of the next conflict like: A call to arm anarchy in the notheast

Learn

Even if you lose a battle you still can learn from it.
Nice to see when you win a battle if it was luck or good decisions.
So always watch your battles and not just skip it.

When you have played a battle either a win or loss you can evaluate if you made the correct choice and learn if you should change something next time. This can be done with the battle vision of XBOT Battle Vision link

Constant chances

The game in the basics has not changed much.
I would love to have PvE mode, this one big advantage of hearthstone, i just like to play PvE campaigns.

There are constant updates to the card editions. New rule sets and abilities.
Look at the list of rule sets and abilities that alone give many strategies and counter strategies.

The community

Next on why i keep coming back is the community. Even with times its very negative but there are a lot of people that are willing to help you out in discord. For the streamers that follow, I really like how they spread information not only we are going to the moon. But also with a critical view towards the game and tokenomics.

My list of favorite youtubers i follow:

Now i write it down like this, that are a lot of youtube streams i tend to watch daily.... Need more time in a day 🤣

The company has an open approach, public API. Others can program their own stuff against splinterlands that is IMHO huge. With this in mind others can create there own businesses. Here are some examples, some with profits some free:

The tokenomics

The third reason I'm still coming back is the tokenomcis.
1 main selling point of web3 is that you own your own assets, for me this revolutionary in gaming.

I have spend thousand of dollars in games, in return i get entertainment. Whenever i want to play another game i need to do a new investment in that game.
With splinterlands you get the entertainment and you can sell your assets and move to another game. Or rent out your deck for while when you want to play something else for some time and come back again later.

The tokens that are available in splinterlands are:

  • Credits (buy/rent assets 1000=1$)
  • DEC (buy/rent assets 1000 DEC has a soft PEG 1$ currently 1000 = 0.77$
  • SPS (Governance token, staked serve as earning threshold, voting power on proposals)
  • MERITS (soulbound for brawl and buy gladius packs)
  • GLINT (soulbound to buy soulbound rewards)

Note: What is PEG

In the future land will add another ~30 tokens like GRAIN/WOOD/ORE... all in game items that will be use for the land game.

Furthermore i like to monitor my asset values here an example of my card collection.
