Introduction
In this post I'll share my splinterlands journey, already 2 years and got the feeling it's just started.
Love the upcoming expansions, land next week and Rebellion in December. Especially Rebellion is very interesting for me. Waiting a long time so that modern format is updated. Finally the strong untamed/dice cards are out.
When this has occurred i probably will be playing more battles manually again.
Start of my journey in splinterlands
Started my journey in November 2021 and remember the start very good.
I was unexperienced with crypto and just enjoy gaming. The crypto was daunting but splinterlands has made it easy to land on the hive blockchain and the community is well willing to help.
As always you still have to be aware of online scams.
In the past I was playing Hearthstone and MTG as well as some other games like diablo. I had a gaming break for some months and wanted to start venture a new game.
I always loved strategy and card games so that was where hunt started on youtube. In the search on Youtube found some videos of @bulldog1205 and @sl-guides that showed splinterlands. After watching some basic tutorials I was very curious about the game. Quickly after that i was hooked to the game and battling in bronze.
Initial investment
I notices that it was a play to earn game and especially the card ownership is what decided me to give it a try. For example i have paid much money into hearthstone and the entertainment value is high but when you are finished with the game you cannot transfers that to another game.
This is possible with splinterlands.
So i started with a spellbook 10$ and some 50$ to buy/rent some starter cards. My strategy was not to get rich immediately, it's nice if it happens. I'll be honest: the potential for your assets to increase in price is one of the aspects that keeps me aware of opportunities out there and taking them seriously. With traditional (Web2) games you simply invest money for entertainment in splinterlands this is entertainment and potential asset value.
Strategy (Game)
Currently my focus is to play on gold level this where my deck is comfortable.
Chaos Legion deck is maxed for GOLD league.
Riftwatchers deck is good enough for GOLD but not maxed

Strategy (Investment)
My base strategy is scale in slowly with money I can miss so every month i spend some amount between 100-300$. This money is spend on different assets like cards/SPS/DEC/land.
In investments terms this is also called Dollar Cost Average (DCA) into position.
Every situation is different also with an smaller amount you can grow your deck slowly and play in bronze or silver. For me the game really start to be interesting in silver and shines in gold and higher because of the strategies becoming more complex.
As you can see my assets are not what i have paid for it. The last year in the bear market asset prices have been dropping. As a player this is an nice opportunity to start scaling in, not for the potential growth. But you can play at an higher level with less investment.

What keeps me playing splinterlands
First I love the aspect of collecting cards growing my deck and battle with the cards i earned and bought.
Secondly I like the economic aspect to invest/get rewards/re-invest/open packs that you have earned.
Thirdly because there is an public API. With this API i can create a program with some fun statistics. That challenge me and with this I keeps practicing my programming skills.

Achievements
Here are some achievements I'm proud on:
Gold level reached:
My first goals was to move out of bronze and play comfortably at silver. When this was achieved i set the new goal on gold league. This was already an major step but really love the strategy in gold. I played some time in diamond but with the new SPS staking requirements gold fits me better.
My Runi:
This was an big investment on the eth chain. Currently only playing with it in battles but in the future it will be working on land for some extra bonuses.
My Lux Vega:
One of my biggest investments, i use this summoner every day in many battles.
Land
My first goal was to have 1 plot at that time plots where 160$ and higher
When the prices dropped i shifted my goal to 5 plots, i currently own 7 land deeds. This is for me the power of setting goals and slowly gain and expand.
Still whish to have many more land plots but currently i cannot work more plots due to the DEC and card staking on these plots.
Advice for an new players
First and foremost, enjoy the game and your own journey at your own pace.
It doesn't matter what another individual spend you cannot own everything.
I find it important to scale in at your own pace that you are comfortably with and set goals. Write your goals down for example in a hive blog and review then after some time.
