Scholarship within splinterlands

Introduction

This week’s challenge focuses on the scholarship model within Splinterlands. This can provide opportunities for new players, or scholars, to enter the game without the need for significant upfront investment.

In Splinterlands, this can be done "easily" via the Hive blockchain, either by sharing posting keys or delegating cards, SPS, or other assets to another player.

It’s important to note that sharing only the posting key doesn’t give the scholar access to perform monetary actions, providing a secure way for managers to lend their assets while retaining control over the account. Its even better to generate a specific posting key for the scholar.

While I’m not an expert in the scholarship model, I know some top players who benefit from it, either as scholars or managers. It creates a win-win situation, offering opportunities for both parties.

For scholars, the opportunity to play with a high-quality deck without the upfront cost. Competing at a higher level requires significant investment, and scholarships allow players to bypass this financial barrier.

From the manager's perspective, it ensures that their cards or assets don’t sit idle, earning rewards and keeping the account active.

For future managers if you interested on what the different keys mean and how to setup/use extra keys.
The support team has made in the past a great video about this subject.

As a Manager

  • Prioritize Security:

Know exactly what access you are granting. Sharing posting keys gives scholars limited control, allowing them to play without accessing financial assets. Make sure to be cautious when sharing sensitive information like keys, and delegate only what’s necessary.

  • Communicate and Set Clear Expectations:

Open, honest communication is crucial. Set clear expectations about rewards sharing upfront. Will the scholar receive a portion of the SPS? How will earned soulbound cards be handled? Will these cards be transferred to the scholar’s account, or retained by the manager? Having these details clarified prevents misunderstandings later on.

  • Educate and Guide Scholars:

Many scholars are new to Splinterlands, and the game’s complexity can be overwhelming. As a manager, provide guidance on game strategy, card usage, and how to improve overall gameplay. This not only benefits the scholar but also helps your assets perform better in ranked play or tournaments.

  • Avoid Micromanagement:

It’s important to give scholars some autonomy. Placing unrealistic expectations or micromanaging their performance can lead to frustration or disengagement. A respectful, trust-based relationship will yield the best results for both parties.

As a Scholar

  • Maintain Respect and Communication

Be upfront with your manager if you can’t play or if any issues arise that could affect your performance. Open communication ensures that both sides remain informed and content.

  • Discuss Activity Preferences:

Scholars should communicate their preferences regarding different aspects of the game, whether it's ranked play, brawls, or tournaments. It's essential to decide how rewards will be shared for each category ahead of time to avoid misunderstandings.

  • Respect the Manager's Assets:

Scholars should treat the manager’s cards and account with care, as maintaining the account's reputation benefits both sides.

Closing Notes

I currently have three accounts in Splinterlands. My main account competes in Diamond/Champion levels, mostly with a Chaos Legion deck, which might be valuable for a future scholarship model. However, I personally enjoy participating in brawls and tournaments, so I wouldn’t want to delegate this account for scholar use. My second and third accounts, unfortunately, are lower-ranked and not appealing to potential scholars at this time.

As mentioned earlier, scholarships in Splinterlands offer opportunities to players from parts of the world where earning even a few dollars a day can be life-changing. I admire the people who have the resources to support these players, contributing to their growth and success.

The scholarship model, combined with the rewards sharing on Hive, can indeed make a real impact in people’s lives. I’m inspired by the possibility of spreading love, peace, and prosperity through this system. Although my accounts are not yet at a level where I can fully engage in the scholarship model, I continue to support the community by upvoting great content and sharing positive energy.

And remember, it’s a game first and foremost—so let’s enjoy it. The rest will follow in due time.

That's all for this week hope you enjoyed reading this post. See you all on the battlefield
