The Voucher Economy Doesn't Make Sense

in Splinterlands3 years ago

The current price of vouchers being sold on the Hive Engine market is just too overpriced. At the time of writing, the vouchers are selling for more than $20. And that doesn't make sense.

Let's think about it for a moment. The Chaos Legion card packs just cost $4 dollars but the vouchers required to buy the actual card packs cost more than five times that of a card pack itself.

Yes, I know that there something called supply and demand and the people selling the card packs are are in control of the supply. But do they really need to be so greedy that they would sell the vouchers for such an absurd price?

It's not like they're buying the vouchers themselves. Like everyone playing Splinterlands they're getting the vouchers for free.

And before you call me out by saying that the vouchers aren't free because they had staked tons of SPS to get it; let me say that that's just technicality. These whales already owned a large amount of SPS and are getting more through airdrops and staking so it's not like they're buying more SPS.

If I were to be honest I would say that requiring vouchers to buy card packs is a mistake. It might have been implemented to stop the card packs from selling too fast but from what I'm seeing most of them would end up in the hands of the whales anyway since they hold majority of the vouchers.

In my opinion the previous pre-sales are better because not only are they cheaper and required no vouchers; new players could still get some card packs as long as they're fast enough.

If the devs really want to protect the value of the older cards they should just limit the amount of card packs each players could buy.

Sure this method has tons of holes in it but it still a lot better than the current method where players with less SPS staked couldn't even buy a single card pack unless they're willing to buy the overpriced vouchers and card packs in the market.

Anyways, that's just my two cents. Thanks for reading 💕

I agree with you, the reason they gave for implementing this new method of vouchers doesn't just add up, On the face of it, Yeah whales could grab up all cards packs. But really, I've been anticipating this presale for so long, that I had be stupid to miss it and sleep that night. All it takes is to be available when it releases and this way, I see all who CARES enough about CL presale getting at least one pack.

Exactly! Vouchers or not, the whales would still be able to sweep most of the card packs in the end. The only thing that vouchers do was prolong the inevitable and make the whales richer. As for casual players without hundreds of SPS stakes, they won't get anything. Seriously, what made them think that alienating majority of their player base is a good idea?

If you want to become not only a player but a communicty member, hold sps and stake it. It's the basic rule of the whole crypto community. BNB community did the similiar way.

I'm pretty certain the majority of the players including casual players of the game are holding and had some of their SPS staked. And I am no different. But the thing is that the amount of SPS we have is very negligible and won't allow us to get even a single (complete) voucher. After all not everyone have thousands of dollars that they could casually use to buy SPS. Does that make us lesser members of the community?

Why would a new player need to buy during the presale? The presale packs cant even be opened till the official release which is over a month from now. Also the presale is only 1 million packs of the 15 million to be sold so it isnt like new players wont be able to buy later.

Vouchers are also going to be used for other events, releases, etc etc so if you dont have many you could save them till the next thing that will take vouchers. While CL packs are $4 the next thing might be worth $30.

And the other 14 millions doesn't need vouchers? Whether we buy during the pre-sale or not doesn't make a difference. That's because unless the voucher is removed, we stake more SPS or buy vouchers we won't be able to be able to buy a single card pack.

Easy for you to say. Do you really want new players to wait for the "next thing" while older players get new powerful cards? Don't forget older players doesn't have to experience what new players are experiencing now. In the previous card pack sales they could buy card packs for cheap (and without the bullshit voucher requirement) and strengthened their decks with powerful cards. This system of requiring vouchers to buy card packs is alienating the new players of the game.

The whole point of the pre-sale is to give early investors the chance to get some packs but not even close to what they actually want to buy. They have build this game with their money and don't want to get screwed by some whale bots who buy the entire supply and corner the market. Pre-sale is 1 million out of 15 million, so there are 14 million packs to grab after the vouchers end. Small players can get what they want after the pre-sale and just sell their vouchers to the whales and make extra profit.

Hi sorry for the late reply. Reading your comment could you be implying that vouchers will no longer needed to buy card packs after the pre-sale? Or do you mean something else?

Not sure about how long vouchers will continue. It says in-game that they stop being issued on November 16. We will see.

Maybe wait until the end of pre-sale, the vouchers may well come down in price - the Whales don't have unlimited funds to buy packs.... and there aren't that many people willing to pay $20 a voucher, there's only 3000 VOUCHER in order out of a drop of 1 million.

I think this is just extreme early FOMO.

The voucher price could well crash by November.

Hi, I apologize for the late reply. About your comment, I really hope that the price of vouchers would go down a lot in November just like what you've said since I really want to get at least a card pack. If not then I'll probably just settle for the packs that could be bought in Hive Engine if it's not too expensive.
