Prologue
I actually liked the free-stlye-writing on the card I clicked on last time. So I did it again. I noticed that a lot of the Rebellion-Cards have only a little lore, so I try to focus on them a little - maybe bits and pieces might be useful to be included. I clicked on the Huntress this time and read the lore about the Sea of Karsts , and decided to describe the march of a company of Chaos Rear Guards through the Karsts, being experimental cannon fodder for Commander Slade in order to test the terrain, to see if there's an opening to flank the Kingdom of Mar Toren . Of course they don't know that. I hope you enjoy this little lore, feel free to send me any feedback on style and wording and so on - English is not my native language, so I'm eager to learn.
I mixed in three quotes (a little paraphrased, but recognizable since they stick out a little) from movies, and I'll send a little gift to those who find them. Drop your Ingame-Name with the comment, please :-)
The Karsts
“Rain. On top of all the water, rain.” The Chaos Rear Guard was huffing, disgruntled voices mixed with the regular unpleasant orkish sounds. “Oh for the Ascendency’s sake!” exclaimed another, jumping up and down on one foot. “Those stones are sharp!” A few drops of blood fell on the ground and instantly mingled with the water, diluting and disappearing in a concerning speed. “Cover that wound! Quick!” The scrached Rear Guard looked baffled at the panic of its superior. “It’s but a flesh wound. I’ve had worse. Let’s go on quickly, to leave this horrid place!” Just after his words were spoken, a sword was at his throat. “Cover. That. Wound. NOW! HURRY!” The Rear Guard scuffed and went on it, while a few more drops made their way to the slippery surface. “It doesn’t even hurt anymore…”
“Why aren't you advancing?” A menacing voice echoed silently through the air, as traveling not on waves, but on the mist itself, and with it an aura that was creeped into everyone’s heart and soul, carefully squashing any hope, until only emptiness and terror was left. “You can’t stay there. This is bat land.” Before the Rear Guard commander could answer, the voice had faded, with all its presence. The Rear Guard commander squeaked. “You heard Commander Slade! Run, you fat fools!” He had not yet finished his sentenced, when a shiver went through the stones beneath them. After a second of terror, the whole company started to get into motion, stumbling over the hostile terrain and each other, trying to get forward as fast as possible.
A screech followed, but it was not that of an orc. The commander went as pale as an orc could get. “They’re here! Defensive formation! Mind your ground! Mind the sky! Mind the mist around you!”
Suddenly, a shaft opened to their left, and bats filled the air, jittering around the guards. Though just scared animals themselves, they distracted the guards just enough to not notice the gap opening on their right, and the creatures silently ascending to the sky around them.
“Just bats!” the rear guard commander laughed. “Let them be! March on!” He turned around when he heard a flapping. Something bigger than the bats – and they were indeed big bats. He looked into the sky just in time to see the flechette coming at him, hitting the front of his heavy helmet with a force he had not experienced. He fell backward, dizzy and confused. In half consciousness, he heard the screeches of the enemy, the squeals of the orcs, the sound of claws and stones hitting heavy metal. He saw an orc flying through the air, dropping on the ground close to him, its face even uglier than before, scratched to the bone. Then the silence. A squeal here and there from the few soldiers still alive, trying to make their way… to where?
A flapping sound. Huge bird legs landing next to him, pushing the disfigured orc with powerful kicks, until he disappeared in the ground. The legs turned towards him. He tried to reach for his sword, but his limbs weren’t answering the call. The legs turned him towards the sky, and he saw the face of the Huntress. “Somewhat beautiful”, he thought. When the claw slit his throat, he felt Commander Slade’s voice again. “Halarian Huntresses. Good to know. You’ve done your duty, soldier.”
