I’m a buyer. I don’t like to rent, although it might be cheaper. I like to own my cards and be able to play them whenever I want, without worrying about renewing a rental. But that also means that I have to be as precise as possible in my buying strategy. Here’s a guide on how to get the maximum out of your hard earned money.

Please read this post for more information on how to determine which cards to buy: Click here for the other post :-)

My tracking pages

I use two pages for maximum turnout. For tracking my cards, I use https://splintertrends.com/ - @splintertrends just added a new feature, the watchlist. This allows you to track up to 10 different cards for free, and getting notifications even on Discord. Learn more about it here: https://peakd.com/hive-13323/@splintertrends/introducing-the-watchlist-feature

I check the list once a day, sometimes twice, sometimes every two days. If one of my favorite cards comes close to the buy price, I am more vigilant – talking about, how do I determine the buy price?

Using Monstercards.store to determine a buy in

For that, I use the shop established by @monstercardstore : Click here to use my referral link - thank you! :-) – I love it because you get back a part of the buying price in form of DEC. 75% of the market fee, to be precise. This link is a referral :-)

In this example, I want to buy Runemancer Florre at level 1. From the main page, it already looks good - but the price could be down from a very high one, and still not worth it. I click on the name, and a window pops up with more information, including a history of buy and rent prices – up to 90 days back. Quite awesome. Why? Because I can see what the lowest point in the last 90 days was, and I usually choose that price to determine my buy-in.

Buying 2.JPG

$3.95 is the lowest in this case – since we’re talking about a Chaos Legion set which will rotate out of modern in around 5 months, I set my price at $3,75 – I don’t need the card right now, it’s a “nice to have” for certain situations. Chaos Legion will probably drop even more when the new set is released. Probably, maybe not :-D

Using Splintertrends to follow the price development

Now I return to Splintertrends, and search for Runemancer Florre.

I follow the guide provided in the link above (Click here for the link again, just in case :-D ), and create a watchlist item. Buying 4.JPG

In this case, the price still has to drop around 7% to get to my buy in. That’s okay, I can wait.

Since I don’t have too much space on my watchlist, I put in the most important ones – like Yodin Zaku, Tofu, Mantaroth and all the beasts that spin a match. Besides that, I have my Excel-List of cards that I would like to buy, and scan the general discount list from Splintertrends once a day – or I wait for @splintertrends to post their daily updates on mega-discounts. I found a few really awesome discounts there, like Agor Longtail, a card that won me more battles than I can count.

All that glitters is not gold!

BUT! Only because a price dropped 60 or 80%, doesn’t mean it’s cheap! Always check back with the history on monstercard.store in order to find out if it’s just coming down from a ridiculous price point, or if the drop is genuinely a steal deal.

And that’s how I use my money efficiently to get a high effectiveness of my deck. Step by step, card by card – always with patience.

Thank you very much for referencing me. I also have the history prices for 180 days. Maybe a new feature will be arisen :)

Well I for one would love to have most features in one space :-D The Watchlist is already making me addicted - I actuall got Florre thanks to it :-D

Yeah! Good to hear it :)
