I've tried different play2earn games on diverse blockchain and one thing that set Splinterlands aside from all the others at the top is its option to prove the gameplay actions on the Hive blockchain. Without any gas fees in sight it provides an ecosystem where players don't feel like they need to give something to get something else. What you do, what you invest, what you hold is all yours and it is in the power of each of us to forge a destiny in the Splinterlands realm, either as conquerors or defenders, but also from a financial standpoint. I must confess that as an adult I was looking for something more than just the fun of playing a game and the financial angle and the ways to strategize on that appealed to me and convinced me to get onboard, even when the game was in its inception phase. And I believe that applies also to other players as well, thus we cannot ignore this part alongside the fun that we get out of it.
For me Splinterlands and the Hive blockchain are in perfect symbioses and the positives of each one work to lift the other. This is very important and through time it proved the power of such links which ensured sustainability. And to be truthful, we need more such successful stories on the Hive blockchain in order to bring it under the spotlight and for others - investors - to see what it truly brings to the game.
Immutable proof of gameplay
Since most of the in game actions that involve assets are recorded as transactions on the Hive blockchain, every battle, reward claim, and trade can be verified transparently. This ensures that there is no foul play or manipulation, giving every player confidence in the fairness of the game. I appreciate the fact that my wins, earnings, and strategies are not just visible but also verifiable by anyone at any time. This transparency builds trust on one side and loyalty on another side.
Free and near real time transactions
Unlike other blockchain games where you need to pay gas fees for every single action, Splinterlands runs on Hive, which allows transactions to be executed near real time (3s) without costs. This means I can battle, trade, rent, or claim rewards as often as I like without ever worrying about fees cutting into my earnings. The freedom to interact with the game’s economy without financial friction is very important, making the experience much more enjoyable and rewarding.
Ownership and true asset control
Splinterlands wouldn’t be the same without Hive’s infrastructure, as it ensures that I truly own every card, DEC, and SPS token in my account. Unlike traditional games where assets are locked into a centralized platform, here I can transfer, sell, or rent my NFTs freely. This kind of financial sovereignty allows me to strategize not just within battles but also in how I manage my assets over time. And in my opinion we should continue on this line rather than taking approaches to internalize assets like the Soulbound cards or Glint tokens. These are pushing us away from the play2earn blockchain game we claim we are.
Symbiosis between Splinterlands and Hive
Splinterlands benefits from Hive’s fast, feeless blockchain, while Hive gains more adoption and visibility through Splinterlands' massive player base. This mutual growth strengthens both ecosystems, creating a positive feedback loop that enhances the value of both. I see this as a win-win situation where I, as a player, get to enjoy a robust game while benefiting from a growing and reliable blockchain. And I think we need to find ways to capitalize more on this, from both sides.
Splinterlands and the Hive blockchain work together in a way that makes the game not just fun but also financially rewarding and completely transparent. The ability to prove gameplay actions on chain while avoiding gas fees gives players confidence and convenience rarely seen in blockchain gaming. With ownership, free transactions and a symbiotic relationship driving growth, I believe this ecosystem will continue to thrive. I’m excited to see how both evolve and will definitely keep playing, strategizing, and making the most of what they offer. We just need a new marketing push to see how high we can go and I think with the next Edition release we will put that to the challenge.

There were talks of splinterlands leaving Hive, I think over the argument of funding, a few weeks ago. I think those people do not really understand that that Hive & splinterlands share a deeper connection beyond that's profitable for both two.
Leaving to another blockchain is not like it will come with any funding from that. Thus, I don't see that as a viable option.
I don't see it as a viable option too. However sometimes maxis felt splinterlands could be better off without hive..
