HELLO to all Splinterlands readers of my humble blog.👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻 Welcome to yet another week of the "new" iteration of the Splinterlands Weekly Challenges 😜. The "old" Battle Challenges are now a thing of the past (at least for now?) and they have been replaced with the "Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge: Explore and Expand Splinterlands Lore".
For any old Hivers/Splinterland players who've just come back and are confused, fret not! Even with the name and format tweaks, right at it's core, battles are still the foundation of these posts.
In this week's edition of my Explore and Expand Splinterlands Lore, I will do something drastically different this week. I will become a storyteller for a day based on one of my favourite, and most used cards in the game!
No matter! I present to you the card — Chimney Wallstop.
So without further ado, let me introduce that card to you! 🎉
The burly, bearded man has been nicknamed Chimney so long that he may not even remember his given name. His surname of Wallstop may also be a nickname born of his incredible sturdiness and size, but it is difficult to say for sure. To Chimney, these matters are of no concern. His favorite thing is to sit around a fire all night laughing among friends, smoking his pipeweed like a chimney. The fire inside him is his thirst for adventure, and in recent years it has been smoldering rather than raging. He needs new stories and new adventures, which is why he has decided to travel to Praetoria and join the Gladiators' camp. His weapon is a large hammer handcrafted by his mentor, a famous but retired kobold blacksmith by the name of Hugo Steppor. The hammer is light and easy for Chimney to swing. On one end is a blunt head for smashing, and on the other is a golden spearhead for goring.
From Splinterlands Lore on Chimney Wallstop
Chimney Wallstop is a Common card released during the Gladius expansion. At LEVEL 1, it has 5 ⚔️ ATTACK⚔️ and 1 🏃🏻SPEED🏃🏻, with 3 🛡️ARMOR🛡️ and 8 ❤️HEALTH❤️. It has the REACH & BLOODLUST ability. It's summoning cost is 10 🧪MANA🧪.
As a unit itself, Chimney Wallstop might look lacklustre. It has a very high casting cost and comes with very slow speed and a mediocre amount of health. A player could probably find better stats for a similar casting cost card elsewhere.
However, what is often overlooked is it's REACH and BLOODLUST ability! These 2 abilities combined would elevate Chimney Wallstop to a level which I would consider to be on par with, or even better than some Legendary units. It can almost certainly be slotted into any team that wants just inflict slow but significant hits on the front. Taking this into consideration, it suddenly looks like a monster instead!
This could make all the difference if the battle comes down to the wire where the slightest advantage is the fine line between victory or defeat! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 This is definitely what I'd consider game changing! 😱😱😱
⚔️🛡️My Story Begins🛡️⚔️
With all that being said, it is time to stop talking about what Katrelba Gobson can do and conjure up a tale about it instead!
"The Fires of Chimney Wallstop"
The Ashlands were silent tonight, save for the occasional crackle of the glowing fissures that split the ground like angry scars. Chimney Wallstop crouched low, his hammer resting lightly against his shoulder. The cold wind carried the acrid tang of sulfur, a constant companion in the Burning Lands. His pipe smoldered softly, its glow reflecting the flicker of his sharp eyes as he studied the bait he'd laid—an assortment of raw meat and scraps arranged on a flat rock.
Tonight wasn’t about survival; it was about settling a score.
A shadow shifted near the jagged rocks ahead, and Chimney’s grip tightened on his weapon. A wraithwolf, its black fur rippling like smoke, slunk closer to the bait. Its eyes burned with a molten-red light, and the air grew colder as it approached. The beast had been terrorizing the nearby slums, preying on trappers like Chimney and leaving nothing but fear and destruction in its wake. Chimney had faced many dangers, but the wraithwolf’s unearthly howl had haunted his dreams for weeks.
The wolf sniffed the bait, its claws clicking against the stone. Chimney didn’t move. The trap he'd crafted from reinforced chains and tempered steel was invisible under the ash, but it would hold—if the beast took the bait.
When the wraithwolf lunged, jaws snapping, the trap snapped shut with a metallic clang. The beast thrashed and howled, a sound that chilled Chimney to his bones, but the trap held firm. Chimney stepped forward, hammer raised.
“Sorry, mate,” he said, his voice calm but firm, “but you picked the wrong slum to terrorize.”
The hammer fell, swift and precise. The blunt head struck with a force that reverberated through the ground. The wraithwolf snarled, but Chimney was relentless, his strikes measured and purposeful. When the beast stilled, Chimney stepped back, panting, and examined his work.
He collected its pelt, a rare and valuable prize, and muttered a prayer for the creature’s spirit—a habit he'd picked up in his youth in Anumun. As he worked, his thoughts wandered to Hugo Steppor, the kobold blacksmith who had forged the hammer Chimney now wielded. He could almost hear Hugo’s gravelly voice: "A weapon isn’t just a tool, lad. It’s an extension of your will. Respect it, and it’ll serve you well."
By the time the sun rose over the Ashlands, Chimney had returned to the slums, his catch earning him both gratitude and gold. Yet, as he sat by his fire that night, smoking his pipeweed and watching the flames dance, he felt the familiar itch of restlessness.
The Burning Lands had been his proving ground, but now they felt small. His hammer had stories to tell, but the world beyond Azad held adventures untold. He glanced toward the horizon, where the golden plains of Praetoria waited beyond the ash-choked skies.
“Guess it’s time to give this hammer some new stories,” he said to himself with a grin, exhaling a puff of smoke.
And so, the fire within Chimney Wallstop began to burn anew, ready to carry him to the Gladiators’ camp, where the battles were fiercer and the stakes were higher. As he packed his meager belongings and shouldered his hammer, he couldn’t help but smile.
The world might always be trying to kill him, but Chimney Wallstop was more than ready to meet it head-on.
💭🧐💭Ending Thoughts💭🧐💭
I definitely can appreciate Chimney Wallstop and how it changes the dynamics of usual gameplay. This is one of those cards which can be turned into a huge advantage if surrounded with the proper team. The role it brings to the battlefield will give a player the edge in squeezing out every tiny advantage to get the win. 👍🏻
I hope this article has given you some insight into its potential. 😉
