On to another week of battle mage secrets and we have a very interesting one in my opinion with the rise of the commons ruleset. Why I believe it is interesting you may ask? Well it is pretty simple, there are a ton of monsters to pick from. Most rulesets have certain strategies and subsequent monsters to choose however the rise of the commons ruleset brings on many monsters who all do something differently. For those who are unaware, the rise of the commons ruleset only allows common and rare monsters to be used. As usual, we will cluster a few strategies together that can be beneficial for this ruleset and then breakdown a brawl battle against a top level brawl player in Bepoppin from the Legendary Raptors guild. Strategies:
1. Sneak: There are several good sneak monsters that are common and rare such as tenyi striker, silent shavi, and the double striking dhampir infiltrator. You can put together three or four sneak monsters on pretty much any element in wild if mid mana matches and then bring a resilient tank like the imperial knight or the night ghoul taunt monster.
2. Legendary Summoner: This might seem a bit of a cop out however if you cannot bring high rarity monsters you might as well bring a legendary summoner to boost them up. Kitty, Yodin, Rathe, and Lily shieldpaw are just a few great summoners that are OP in this ruleset especially depending on the other rulesets combined with rise of the commons such as magic reflect or equal opportunity.
3. Magic Damage: When in doubt, use the best attack in the game. High magic damage can be tough to deal with from common monsters as there are not many high health magic reflect monsters and very few void armor monsters. Targeted damage is always good and magic damage that almost never misses is a good choice to have.
Match Breakdown Round 1:
Equal opportunity, earthquake, and rise of the commons for this matchup. My immediate mind went to lily for the triage and forced damage to the front line. It also went to life as it has the best rare gladiator monsters in the game in captain katie. There are also a few good flying monsters and lastly a resilient tank in the imperial knight. My opponent went with Kitty which is almost always a good choice but may have been the downfall here. In round 1, it is not looking great to be honest as his martyr monsters did their job dying early and not to my captain katie. He has a five damage healing knight as well as five damage captain katie.
Round 2:
In round 2, the decision for no triage from my opponent did him in as the captain katie goes down immediately to the earthquake damage. I was also able to get a few slightly lucky hits on his backline ranged monster from the silvershild knight and harpy. Captain katie finishes it off and now we are off.
Round 3:
Things continue to go well as the Captain Katie gets the kill on the pelacor conjurer buffing up to five magic damage. There is also a key triage from the lily on the katie allowing it to continue to fire for many rounds to come. Everything ends in round 4 as my four monsters take care of his imperial knight.
Equal opportunity and lily go together very well and the legendary summoners play for the commons ruleset is always a good choice in my opinion. Having these cards is a must for any competitive player especially in a tier 4 brawl battle like this one. Shout out to Time and Attention 1 for the greatest team a mage could ask for. Beautiful battle
I like the strategies you have developed on the battlefield
