Can the Water Splinter Out-Melee the Fire Splinter?
I'm here to answer that question with the weekly challenge using Deeplurker
When it comes to an all melee battles one of the most common strategies we see is in the form of demoralization using cards like disintegrator.
As effective as this strategy may be there are two direct counters, defeat the monster using demoralize and the effect is neutralized or use inspire and the demoralization is offset.
When attempting to beat the Melee heavy Fire splinter in lower leagues using the Water splinter the Demented Shark can be key!
Lets dive into the Battle to explain why this card is so effective!
The Battle
The Rules:
- 46 Mana
- No Death Splinter
- Equal Opportunity: All monsters have opportunity
The first thing here is to think whether I should use Magic Melee or Ranged.
Having opportunity means that speed would be important so the Earth Magic team with its slow speed and lower health back-row would be taken out too quickly.
Similar scenario for the Life Ranged team although I could have used taunt to slow it down I was worried that at high mana I would not be able to effectively use ranged with the cards at my disposal.
The Choice was Clear: Melee
As I said before speed would be important so I decided to go with Water over Fire as a water team would have high speed plus the armor from Kelya
Lets talk about the team
- Demented Shark
As mentioned earlier this was a key part of the team as inspire would counter a demoralize but also increase my teams damage in the event there was no demoralize.
- Diemonshark
This card was perfect for my tank position, it would dodge attacks and trample would allow for a second hit if it killed the opponents card, a great way to make use of its ability instead of using it in the back-row.
- Serpent of Eld
Knowing that Opportunity will attack the card with the lowest health I thought to myself this is a perfect opportunity to take advantage of the Serpent of Eld's dodge ability and cause many misses this way I could control who was attacked.
- Deeplurker
As a 3 damage 6 cost card there is not many better than Deeplurker, a must use in low league water splinter teams!
- Flying Squid
The Flying Squid was used to help wear down the opponents frontline!
Sea Monster
This card was perfect as my last card. It not only has a massive 4 damage at level 1 but its heal ability can come in clutch. If my opponent uses a sneak card they will be using attacks that will not really affect the Sea Monster since it heals enough to counter majority of the damage from one card!
Its Showtime!
Watch the Battle Here: Water Opportunity Annihilation
My opponent went with the fire team which was expected.
Notice that they have cards up to level 3 while I only have level 1
They seemingly played right into my hands but would it go as I expected?
End of Round 1:
The opponent was only able to land two hits in round one. The first on my Serpent of Eld and the second on my Sea Monster, this was not a worry as even if they got though my Serpent of Eld I was getting through their team faster!
End of Round 2:
Once again misses after misses and I was worried for my opponent.
Would they even manage to knock out one of my cards?
