The Gladius Guide - Part 4 | Life

Not only since the introduction of the SPS Rewards, the Brawls are a highlight for many Splinterland players. There are many factors that make the Brawls a special experience.
Celebrating successes together and also going through defeats together to become better inspires and builds team spirit.
I still remember how confused I was at the first Brawls when the veteran opponents came to the field with cards that seemed to be completely overpowered!
From my point of view, the Gladius cards are one of the main reasons why the Brawls are so much fun.
Not only because they are very strong, but also because they are rare and it takes a long time to build up a good deck of them.

I'll be going over all the Gladius cards in a small series of articles and we'll look together at how and where they can be used. To keep it all organized I will go through splinter by splinter.
Here are the links to the other parts of this series:

The power of the righteous

The Gladius cards of the Life Splinter are as diverse as the Splinter itself. One Non-Attack card, 2x Meele, 1x Ranged and 2 Magic cards are available. This set is one of the most balanced from my point of view. But even here there are mavericks, meaning a few of the cards are simply very strong. Of course they are, like mostly the Epic and the Legendary, but not only.

So let's take a look at the cards in detail!

Helmet Kharafax

image.png

The guy with the ham looks harmless at first glance. And even at second glance it stays that way. Only on the higher levels the really useful abilities are added. Helmet, as a non attack card with only 2 mana cost, is actually good as a meatshield for low mana fights, but the Gladius cards are usually too bad for such tasks. From level 7 with Magic Reflect this changes a bit.
The card remains a special case for a few rule sets like the mentioned Magic Reflect or Briar Patch.

Hugo Strongsword

image.png

The 2nd common card is already more useful. Hugo Strongsword can take a lot of punishment. Thanks to the shield ability he is well armed against melee and ranged attacks. With 6 Hit Points and 3 Armor, he can also take some magic damage. From level 5 he has another good ability for a tank with Heal.
Due to the vulnerability against magic damage, he benefits especially from Grandmaster Rathe and his abilities. But also with Ilthain he becomes a deadly danger.
All rulesets without magic cards benefit the card. Setups like Meele Mayhem or Super Sneak etc. are also a good opportunity to get the Swordsman on the board.

Ajax Lightfoot

image.png

There is only one ranged fighter in the Gladius set of the Life Splinter and that is Axja Lightfoot. The enormously high attack speed is immediately obvious. 2 damage and 4 hit points for only 4 mana is more than ok. The card is best suited for Little League and all rulesets where ranged fighters are preferred. From level 4 it becomes really difficult to hit with Dodge! It can be combined well with all summoners. Due to the high speed, you can be almost 100% sure to get the first hit, which can be a big advantage with Holy Protection for example. All in all a good card.

Captain Katie

image.png

Captain Katie is perhaps the strongest Rare Gladius card in my view. Already on level one 3 magic damage and snipe. It targets the vulnerable enemy range and magic backliners. Often Bloodlust can be triggered like this and she becomes a beast. The only thing she lacks is speed, so it is advisable to protect her well.
She is not picky about the Summoner, even the rules are hardly relevant. Except for Magic Refelct, perhaps. Due to the balanced stats she is hard to counter. However, with 7 mana cost, it is rather rare to play it in the absolute low mana matches.

Marisol Contuma

image.png

As in Earth Splinter, the Epic card is the secret star of Life. Marisol is a real gamechanger and comes very close to a Quora. 4 melee damage at 5 speed, 8 hit points and 4 armor. As if that wasn't enough, the noble maiden also has Reach!
So she is more or less a tank behind the tank with massive damage potential. The only thing she's a bit vulnerable to is magic damage, but since she's not in the front row from the start, that's not too dramatic. Besides, this weakness can be eliminated excellently with Grandmaster Rathe.
The only thing she doesn't get along with is the Reverse Speed rule. Otherwise, there are hardly any limits, were it not for the cost of 9 mana, but let's face it, less would simply be OP!

Sola Ranjell

image.png

With Sola Ranjell, the Life Splinter has a very strong support card. 5 hit points for only 3 mana are solid values. From level 2, the range of use becomes even larger thanks to Cleanse. Of course, Sola is especially useful in fights with little mana and in Little League. From level 2 it is also a key card for Noxius Fumes.
It can be played well with all summoners and is also very variable in terms of rulesets. There are some rules where the card is not playable like Rise of the Commons, Lost Legendarys and Even Stevens. Since it is not primarily a DMG dealer, it only limits Void Armor or Phase a little.

Summary

The Gladius Set of the Life Splinter is well-balanced and there are some very good cards in it. I enjoy playing with the Life Splinter and always have fun doing so. Unfortunately, I haven't leveled up the Soulbound Summoner yet, so I'm a bit limited, but with some luck, I'll soon draw some BCX! Next week, we'll focus on the Death Splinter!

See you soon on the battlefield
