This week's Splinterland's Share your Battle theme is the Crystal Jaguar and in honor of the them I upgraded mine to level 4, where it gets a bit more prickly:
Even though Jag is already a nice low mana tank with a shield and decent life, once it gets the thorns ability things really start to take off. You can check the battle here if you can't wait to see how it turned out or read on for some strategy tips.
First things first, the variant for this match:
Mana: 25
Ruleset: Fog of War (no sneak or snipe)
As soon as I saw this I knew CJ would be a great tank because I could hide my attack at the back and he will deal some good damage before he gets taken out.
So I came up with the following lineup:
Summoner: Lorna Shine (Level 3)
First position: TANK and star of the post... Crystal Jaggy Pants!!!!! (Level 4)
Second Position: Luminous Eagle (Gold Level 3)
Third Postion: Silvershield Knight (Level 1)
Fourth Position: Furious Chicken (Level 1)
Fourth Position: Lunakari Mistress (Level 2)
So my thought process was to put Cryst Crystie up front and deal some damage against the other teams attackers with thorns. With this in mind my summoner, Lorna Shine, gave divine shield and at least and extra hit on him. While he takes a beating Luminous Eagle and Lunakari Mistress will attack hard. Silvershield can do some damage but gives Jaguar and Luna some extra punch on their melee attack. Finally, when you've got a spot and no mana left, you gotta throw in a chicken.
The other team had the following lineup:
Summoner: Plado Emberstorm (Level 3)
Position 1: Magnor (Level 2)
Position 2: Elemental Phoenix (Level 1)
Position 3: Goblin Shaman (Level 1)
It is pretty clear that my opponent wanted to lower my health with the Shaman and Plado and then roll through me with Magnor while picking off my health with Elemental Phoenix. Well not so fast buddy! As you'll see in the video everything went exactly to plan. While the big strong Magnor and crew were trying to take down my spiky leader, my back line was doing work! Even with Jaguar missing on his only attempt, he did four points of damage to Magnor with thorns and held him off long enough to help win the match.
Conclusion: There are so many cards in this game that are underutilized and that is exactly why no one sees them coming. I recommend leveling up some lower cost cards until they have some useful abilities. Then you can sit back and have a beer with Mick Jaguar, while Magnor cries in the corner.
Thanks for reading, this is my first shared battle and hopefully it was a fun read. Let me know in the comments if there's anything you'd like to see different in the future. And thanks to the curation team for taking a look!
