Why it Pays To Write Articles!
How To Get Started! (New Players Step-By-Step)
IMPORTANT: This is not a get-quick-earnings way to go about things as you really need to enjoy it to do it well and also keep it up. If you put the time and effort into it however, you are near sure to get rewarded.
Get Your Hive Private Keys: As part of the cost of the Spellbook, Splinterlands makes a Hive account for you which you can request the private keys from on the Splinterlands Website. You should download Hive Keychain as the best way to log into your Hive account and start blogging.
Weekly Challenges: Each week, there are 3 different challenges on the official @splinterlands blog that you can take part of which potentially can get you good upvotes. You can choose between the Social Media Challenge which is the most accessible as you can write about anything Splinterlands related and qualify as long as you also share the article on other social media. There is the Community Engagement Challenge which each week has a different topic most of the time related to making a guide like this one. And there is also the Art Contest for those who are into making fanart and Splinterlands inspired original artwork
Make a Article for the Social Media Challenge: I would say the best way to start is to make a detailed article about your experience so far playing Splinterlands. What do you like or dislike about it, what are your general strategies, How did you hear and learn about the games, what are your plans going forward are all things you can write about. Make sure to make it is interesting to read and make it look nice in every way (See Below). It will take some time first to learn. Make sure to read the guidelines in the social media post so you are sure to qualify!
Share Your Posts on Social Media and reply in the original Challenge post: This way the curators can actually find your post and upovote it if they deem it worthy enough. Usually the more effort and love you put into them, the higher the upvotes potentially will be and it's completely unrelated to your status or investment into the game. So you will be treated the same if you only bought the spellbook or if you are a whale owning a fortune in Splinterlads assets. It is also by far the best way to earn back the initial Spellbook investment in no time.
See The Upvotes Flow In!: Since Hive works with a mechanism where those who upvote posts that end up getting bigger votes later on get more curation rewards, you naturally will get some upvotes on your Splinterands content even in case you don't end up getting actual Splinterlands curation (it's not a guarantee). 7 Days after you published your post it will be paid out to you 50% in Hive Power and 50% in HBD.
How To Make Posts Look Nice!
Use a Good Title & Thumbnail! Visuals are highly important as nobody really wants to read just a wall of plain text. Headlights and images are important! The first image that you used in your post will be used as a thumbnail on all the Hive interfaces that show the articles that are published. Important to know is that thumbnails are scaled in a 800x480 aspect ratio or an equivalent of that, so make sure that your image has a size so they nicely fit. The Splinterlands team wants good-looking thumbnails and Titles in trending so without it you have no real chance to make it there.
Make Your Post Easy Digestible as again, nobody really wants to read a long plain text. Divide it into chapters or sections with different text sizes so it is very easy for someone to quickly go through them understanding what you want to communicate and mainly read the parts they are interested it. This post can be taken as an example for that.
Use Plenty of Images
A good image says more than a thousand words so use them properly as it also makes an article look nice and easier to digest for the readers. It can't be overstated how important images are you don't need to be a Photoshop wizard get get this part right!Use Markdown to Give Your Article a Nice Format. Hive works with Markdown as a way to organise how text and images look in a post. I once learned it way back in the Steemit days from this article Link and this one Link where pretty much everything is laid down. The ones I use most and already get you a long way!
HyperlinkText
Align Image
IMG HERE

Font Size (Different numbers)
Text

Bold & ItalicText and Text
Center Text
Text

Break Line

Use a Spell-Correct Tool like Grammarly which I am personally using Plugin Link which will make sure that your text isn't full of mistakes.
More Tips & Knowledge!
Build Your Hive Account & Engage in the Community! The upvotes don't only come from the Splinterlands account but they can also come from other community members.
You basically want to grow your own Hive Power which allows you to give to others as your upvote will be worth more which also allows you to get more back since people who are invested are just more likely to upvote the ones who are also invested and don't just dump hive on the market creating sell pressure lowering the value of their bag. If you really aim to grow quickly you can use the HBD you earn and convert it to Hive to Power it up or better to pay for a Delegation which can be leased on https://hive-engine.com/lease
Splintertalk (SPT) & Tribes!: Splinterlands posts when using the right tag (SPT) or the splintertalk.io website will earn extra tokens depending on the tribe or community. These are paid out and can be bought or sold in Hive-Engine which you can log into with your Hive Keychain.
Use earnings To Re-invest in Splinterlands! which is the best way to grow organically in Splinterlands and actually earn without having to put a ton of money into it. Credits can be bought directly with Hive or HDB on the website. When converting part of your earnings systematically into Splinterlands assets they really do compound as they will increase the earnings you get from the game.
Engage in the Community & Make Friends! One of the things that makes Splinterlands so great is the community and engaging in the community can not only earn your some upvotes on your comments, you will also make friends and might get invited to join a great guild or make meaningful connections.
Conclusion!
Blogging and making articles about Splinterlands still by far is the best way to actually earn something and grow in the game if you do it right. That is if you actually enjoy it and are willing to put some hours into it to do it right. I would go as far as saying that if your are playing Splinterlands but not writing about the game also you are not doing it right!
