CHALLENGE RULES

RULESET: Going the Distance

Description:

Going the distance(range only).png

Only units with ranged attacks may be used.

Consider including units with the Close Range and Return Fire abilities in your lineup.

  • Make sure to use a close range monster as a tank upfront to still do damage.
  • As a backup or secondary tank option you could deploy a monster with high speed or high health if no close range options are available.
  • The Amplify ability increases damage from Return fire
  • Be ready for range lineups

Armored up.pngArmored upHaving high armor will help you absorb some extra damage.
Holy Protection.pngHoly ProtectionDivine shield will protect you from one source of damage.
Up to eleven.pngUp to elevenThis ability works so well with this ruleset but chances that your opponent does bring range to this battle are fairly slim It does still work for other damage types like melee and magic if you bring some monsters along with Magic reflect and Thorns depending on which way your opponent goes.

Monsters breakdown
Buffs

close range.pngClose Range
Close Range is the ability that gives your front line tank the option to still do damage.

return-fire.pngReturn Fire
This ability allows you to send back some of that damage your opponent is doing.

Amplify.pngAmplify
Increasing your return fire damage by +1 very good synergy if you have that ability.
shield.pngShield
Reduces the damage from melee or ranged attacks.
repair.pngRepair
Having the repair ability allows you to repair the armor of your monsters.
protect.pngProtect
Having high armor will help you absorb some damage. Protect ability can give you two additional armor while the Repair ability will help you regain your damaged armor.

Nerfs

headwinds.pngHeadwinds
You can survive longer if you can reduce the damage from your opponent's attack. Headwinds reduces the ranged damage this will be an ideal way to hurt their damage output.
reflection shield.pngReflection Shield
This ability directly counters the effect of Return fire ability.

Summoners breakdown

Summoners buffsReasons
FernheartGiving all of your monsters close range can be magical in this ruleset.
Ilthaine or Lir DeepswimmerAs you are 100% certain your opponent is going with range you can gain insane value from return fire combo with amplify for the extra kick.
SloanExtra range damage can go a long way in the ruleset do check to make sure your opponent does not have access to return fire summoners like Iltaine or Lir deepswimmer
KelyaSpeed and Armor are great options here to help you get the win.
LuxSame reasons as Kelya with the added bones of some more health as well.
Grandmaster RatheGiving everyone void armor can be particularly difficult to get through regardless of the damage type.
ImmortalisGiving everyone shatter can be painful for opponents who have gone with armor plays.
Summoners nerfsReasons
NoneCan't really think of summoner with a disadvantage.

Without further delay lets dig into a battle to see some of our recommendations in action.

Battle

My opponent chose the new Souldbound summoner in fire. I went with Thadius Brood to decrease their health. The reason I did not go with Kelya here was because of the Odd ones out rule set limiting my options of monsters to use.
Me and my opponent chose a close range monster as our tank. I went with a martyr play to buff that tank just a little bit before the real fighting starts.
Their martyr play was placed in the 2nd position and it did not really add any value to their monsters as the buff was on someone who could not attack from the front.
