This post is speculation about some of the characteristics that existing cards have and how those characteristics might be repurposed to give additional utility to them through land.
Like last time, I want to recognize @shinoxl, who has posted all of the Splinterlands official land artwork used in this post on their PeakD page.
The series discusses ideas about alternate types of utility that certain cards might have when it comes to land. There are certainly other cards that have the characteristics that are mentioned here but these are some nice examples. The posts are divided by splinter type. Today’s is dedicated to Earth and Life. If you would like to view the Fire and Water splinters, you can do so here: https://peakd.com/hive-13323/@dangerbald/what-characteristics-of-existing-cards-could-translate-to-the-land-game
If you have ever listened to a townhall, you have heard Nate talk about different aspects of creative. He wants to put us into the game as much as possible. When we open chests, he wants it to be an experience. There is no way that a guy who cares that much about what chests look like, or what the badges look like for each level, is going to just let resources get transferred around a dead board with a click of a button. We are going to need something to move these things around!
So, one wonders if we will actually be able to use cards that represent beasts of burden to do this? Can we fly dragons for fun?
On to the Earth and Life Splinters.
Earth
Brownie
Brownie offers a speed boost to his companions; so if that applies to land, perhaps he can give a boost to efficiency on how we mine our resources. Not only that, but this is a Beta era Reward card, so if boosts are applied to cards based upon their CP (and not just A/B designation), then it’s possible that there is an additional boost available with this card.
Centauri Mage
These beautiful chimeric beings look perfect for personal transport and possibly transporting materials. However, it’s definitely advisable to seek consent first before trying to throw a pack on one. They can apparently rain green fire magic on you and if that’s not enough to keep you back, I’m guessing that they pack quite a wallop with those back legs!
Flesh Golem
Flesh Golems can “attack with the strength of a hundred men” so, one would think that they will be pretty useful on land. There is one problem though. Unconfirmed reports have been made that they are known to be surprisingly social and well-organized. Based on this, we suspect that in two regions (looking at you Matt Two Castles), where they will have been put to work without mercy, and in extraordinary numbers, they will likely turn to creating unions as a defense. Should this occur, it will likely make using them on land incredibly complicated. There will be forms to fill out, mandatory break-times, etc.
Rexxie
Personal transport for those who like to live on the edge! The neighbors may not like that you are stomping on their lawn, but they’re not going to come outside and say anything. More likely, they just pull the curtain and whimper. What remains to be seen is whether there will be a saddler who can fix a mount properly. I certainly would not want to fall forward over those tiny front shoulders and massive chompers.
Stone Golem
The lore actually says that “A good day for a Stone Golem is one in which he did a lot of heavy lifting.” It might be interesting to see if they could be used to pull carts to facilitate local transport but they do not appear to be of the fast transport type. In their defense, while they are very slow at levels one and two, they do pick up the pace so by level seven, they are zooming along at three speed.
Life
Adelade Brightwing
Adelade offers flight so she may be able transport Virtulium to your storage or to market. However, she also moves quite slowly till level four, at which point, she and her companions will all have a speed boost. So, if she can be used to fly your resources to market, then you may want to fully level her up to make the run.
Baby Unicorn/Sacred Unicorn
If anything in the entire Splinterlands is rideable, then for the love of all that you find holy, please make it be the Unicorns. Thank you in advance, on behalf of my daughter.
The Peakrider
This summoner rides a 15’ tall demon horse! In the lore, he rides the mountainsides. He would just need a wagon and you should be able to pull everything to market. He also provides armor for his monsters during battle. So, if he was placed on land, perhaps those monsters or the land would benefit from additional protection.
Silvershield Sheriff
In the lore, sheriffs actually travel from town to town. Given that they are already on the move and are described as having a strong moral character, it’s possible that they could be used to move small amounts of your precious, harvested Virtulium.
Truthspeaker
Truthspeaker offers protection to all of its companion monsters. It’s possible to envision a wall or barrier being erected around land that one of these cards is working on. Perhaps even a life spell that could be used to protect her fellow land workers?
Next time we will discuss the Death and Dragon splinters. Just as a teaser, the card that could potentially represent the sweetest ride in Splinterlands will be discussed in one of these two splinters! This will be the financial advice that everyone is afraid to give you! :)
