Hello Splinterlanders,
Another new monster we see being featured in the weekly challenge and giving us an opportunity to write a blog with a battle detail.
So, this week, we have a common monster Horny Toad featured for this Weekly Challenge.
Horny Toad belongs to Untamed edition and is a common neutral monster with lesser stats to begin with as we can see below.
Although it has lesser stats at lower levels, when leveled up, it can be a good second position monster because of it's Reach ability and also can throw Poison when leveled up to Fifth level.
Poison and Reach are 2 abilities this monster has and both are good and helps to use this as a front line monster at second position.
Lineup:
I got this 27 mana battle with Weak Magic an Broken Arrows rule sets.
Weak Magic as we know, makes magic monsters to hit and remove the armors before reducing the health of a monsters.
Broken Arrows takes out ranged attack monsters from using in the battle or to simply say, ranged attack monsters are not allowed to be used in the battle.
Below is my lineup for this battle:
Silvershield Knight
Horny Toad
Cave Slug
Silvershield Assassin
Divine Healer and
Furious Chicken
Let's see in detail why I used this lineup.
1. Silvershield Knight:
The reason why I used this monster is, this being an inspire monster, can help increasing the attack of melee monsters and it's speed of 4 helps it to attack in first few iterations thus giving me a slighter advantage in removing the opponent's monsters.
2. Horny Toad:
Horny Toad is the monster featured in this week's challenge and I have to use it in second position since it has a reach ability and can attack from that position and help Silvershield Knight in taking on front monster from other side.
3. Cave Slug:
One of the few Gold Foiled monsters I have, and that means, I have this at level 3 with 3 attack and 5 health and it's opportunity ability means, it can attack the monster with lowest health among the opponent's lineup.
4. Silvershield Assassin:
Another good monster from Life Splinter and being a sneak monster, it helps in removing the monsters from back end.
5. Divine Healer:
Divine Healer gives the much needed healing for front monster and keeps it running for many rounds.
It's 1 magic attack is also useful in the battle.
6. Furious Chicken:
The last monster in this lineup and since there was no mana left to cover, I used this freebee monster to cover the back end.
My opponent used the Death splinter with his lineup comprising of Goblin Mech, Furious Chicken, Spirit Miner, Fallen Specter and Boogeyman.
With those details, I now take you through the battle step by step as in below screenshots.
Battle:
That is how it started with Round 1 with those initial buffs and debuffs getting set from summoners and monsters with details of monsters surviving in round One as below:
As we can see, 2 monsters from opponent's lineup couldn't make it to round 2 and those monsters includes Boogeyman (removed by Silvershield Assassin's double attack with 2 melee attack strength each time) and the other monster removed was Furious Chicken being the least health monster, got removed by Cave Slug courtesy of it's opportunity ability.
Round 2 was with even more strength for me as the speed of monsters increased with removal of Boogeyman in last round and 2 monsters each got removed from each side.
While opponent's Fallen Specter was removed by double attacking Silvershield Assassin, his Goblin Mech was removed by Cave Slug.
In between those 2 removals, Silvershield Knight and theme monster of Horny Toad got removed by combined attack of Goblin Mech and Spirit Miner.
The monsters after round 2 were as below:
Spirit Miner survived in Round 3 because of it's *Dodgy ability as Silvershield Assassin missed to attack in one of 2 hitting of it's double attack while, Cave Slug completely failed to attack it.
There were no Dodging from Spirit Miner in Fourth round and Cave Slug, Silvershield Assassin** and Divine Healer combined to remove it and gave me a win!!!
Although, the theme monster of Horny Toad couldn't survive till the end, in it's 2 rounds stay, it attacked every time with it's 1 melee attack and did it's bit in the win.
Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?
I think it worked good although I had few scary moments when Silvershield Assassin and Horny Toad fell in one round. But other monsters could take it thru to finish the battle.
If we see my lineup, Horny Toad is the only less attack and less health monster and hence, it had negative impact and I culd have used a better monster for the same mana and that could be the only change!!!
Do you use the Horny Toad often? Why or why not?
Nope, I never used it before as it's attack is just one for the level of card I own.
That is all I can write about this battle friends.
Hopefully, it was a good read for you all.
