RE: Brawling, Tournaments, and Battle Assistants: Another big guild joins XBot's party

in Splinterlands2 years ago

This post has been brought to my attention and we have a no bot pledge by all of our members. I don't know how this service works, so I will check into it.

I know we had defined bots in tourneys and brawls as a computer entering the matches vs humans (but assisted tools were allowed since they would be almost impossible to stop).

I will be happy to let you know what the answer is when I get it.

Yeah, thanks for the comment @davemccoy. It seems that assisted tools are a bit of a mixed bag of feelings for many. Personally, I'd rather no one used them. But they exist and it's a sticky wicket, as they say... And the definition of bot is a bit of a sliding scale - this IS an autobattle blockchain game, after all :)

To give you a quick overview of the service, it works like this:
Any person, whether or not they hold an XBot token or use it for botting ranked play, can send DEC to a specified XBot account to load some credits with the service, and ask XBot's discord bot to recommend lineups for any current match they have started. This service also works for brawls and tournament matches, and fees can range from 1-50 DEC per match.

From my end, I've tracked every user that has sent DEC to this account since they opened it up to anyone. I've then matched them to their current guild and the most recent Fray. My focus is on the OVERALL STATE of brawling and "bot-assisted" lineups, so I've avoided naming individual users, but I think guilds are fair game. (Although the data is all there.)

Oh I see you you look at the time of the transactions and you check it through the block explorer?. That's a lot of work, so you can be sure that is being used for brawls. Good job.

Hey @palasatenea unfortunately no, there's no way to time stamp usage, or to guarantee that they are using for brawls only, because that info goes through private discord messages and is not on-chain. I'm sure many of these users might be using for tournaments (is that preferable?)

It's even possible that some players are only paying DEC to get lineups for ranked, however it's a pretty reasonable assumption that is the minority, for two reasons:

  • Xbot's free trial service and bot includes free ranked play, so how many people will choose to pay for recommendations? and
  • BH usage is highest during brawls and large tournaments, as represented by the load-balancing floating fee on XBots server.

That is part of the reason I've chosen to only name top guilds instead of users. While I am confident the MAJORITY of BH users are using for brawls and/or tournaments, there will be the occasional exception. However the overall patterns remain the same.

If a player claims they only use for ranked, it is up to the reader to decide for themselves.
