I was listening to the @thepeoplesguild YouTube recording a couple of days ago and they had been discussing how good Tofu was and how bad Nidhogger was, and when @roguepatton was making the point that actually Nidhogger was having a larger effect in the lower leagues than Tofu i thought i would take a closer look at what was happening with rebellion summoners, they have obviously been overshadowed by the max level Chaos Legion summoners but we all know they wont be around for ever (in Modern at least)
Looking at the data from @splinterstats we are now playing over a third of modern matches in Gold league so I'm concentrating on that for now.
Looking over the past 5 seasons usage of Rebellion summoners in Gold league hasn't changed much but does have an upward trend for total usage, even if very slight. Not sure what would have caused the drop in season 149 though.
And along with the increased usage players seem to be getting better at using the summoners too, win rates showing an increasing trend from 5 seasons ago in all but 4 summoners, with Nidhogger trailing only Tofu in win rate %
Of course Tofu spam has hit Gold and nearly 40% of matches in season 152 with a rebellion summoner involved Eternal Tofu!
One thing that is surprising though is that the average level of the Rebellion summoners being played has decreased across the 5 seasons, people are winning more with lower level cards, perhaps more rebellion cards are being used and changing the landscape a little as well as players becoming more confident in the summoner usage.
Will be interesting to see what card shortages and possible increasing player base does over the coming seasons in the run up to the release of Conclave Arcana and how summoner use changes.
There is still a lot of room to grow for the Rebellion summoners but it wont be long before they are the all powerful card wielders of Modern format.
As soon as Chaos Legion rotates out of modern, the whole meta will change. It's hard, maybe impossible, to anticipate what will happen then.
Agreed, we don’t know what new mechanics will come with the new set, what changes will be made to rule sets etc. It’s a whole new ball game on the horizon!
