How to defeat Mylor Crowling (Earth Splinter)

Splinterlands

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. I'm sure most of You (like me) has felt that the earth summoner Mylor Crowling and the Unicorn Mustang/Stone Golem + Wood Nymph + Earth Elemental lineup is overpowered. I kept losing over and over again to this strategy, so I started looking online for a guide or tips that could help me overcome this strategy, but I didn't find any, so I told a friend I was going to rent this earth splinter summoner and I wanted him to throw everything he had at me, I needed to find a weakness to the strategy... several hours later, we came out with a couple of counters against it, if you happen to be interested, keep reading...

How to counter Mylor Crowling Summoner

The next to battle replays show how powerful Mylor can be against magic strategies, I managed to defeat them with ease.

This is one of the most common water magic strategies I encounter on the bronze league.

This was a slight variation of the same strategy against another water magic strategy.

Since Mylor Crowling gives the thorns ability to every card on the field, the idea would be to make that strategy ineffective by either avoiding melee damage entirely, try to outlast the heal strategy by using a tank + heal as well, or try to prevent the earth splinter's tank from healing. I'm going to discuss all 3 strategies next.

Water Splinter (Tank + Heal Strategy):

My friend and I came out with this strategy for the water deck, check the replay here.

The strategy here consists of using this legendary water summoner, Lir Deepswimmer, because it grants the return fire buff to every friendly monster plus 2 shield, making it hard for ranged strategies to succeed, it also grants the Blind debuff to every enemy monster, making ranged and melee attacks less effective.
Combined with this tank on the first position, the Frost Giant. This card is incredible. It has 4 damage, 9 health and the shield ability. This ability reduces the damage from the thorns to -1 and also, every other melee and ranged damage. Combined with the return fire buff from Lir Deepswimmer, this is a deadly combination against ranged builds.
The third and final card would be Crustacean King, to heal the Frost Giant every turn.

Any mana left should be used to further enhance the damage per round and also protect the crustacean king from any sneak monsters.
As you can see on the replay, the Mylor strategy got destroyed, the strong tank + heal + return fire was too powerful and the thorns ability didn't amount to anything.

Dragon Splinter (Affliction Strategy):

This low mana magic monster has a very special ability, called affliction, basically, it has a 50% chance of infecting the enemy monster, making it unable to be healed. This neutralizes the tank + heal strategy that most Mylor owners use. I combined it with the Delwyn Dragonscale summoner that increases magic damage by 1. The rest of my monsters used the same magic synergy with Delwyn Dragonscale, increasing the damage output, and preventing me from getting any damage from the thorns ability. My opponent's Unicorn Mustang was ineffective against this, because the Wood Nymph couldn't heal it, and my magic damage was greater than 1 (thanks to my summoner).

Avoiding melee damage strategy:

The other way to defeat Mylor is to focus on ranged damage, specially since most summon the Unicorn Mustang tank that is powerful against magic damage. There are a couple of high ranged damage cards, like the Lightning Dragon, Poseidon, Axemaster, etc.
If combined with a high health tank that can heal itself or that has the shield ability and also is being healed by another card, it should allow you to outlast your opponent. It all depends on the amount of mana available for each battle.
I tried the sneak/snipe angle against the Wood Nymph, but any good duelist will try to protect the low health healer among high health monsters, the only real way to get her first would be to use a card with high damage and the opportunity ability, like the Dragon Jumper card.

I hope this post helps some of you out there, specially if you have been struggling against Mylor, I know its a very common summoner to encounter on the Bronze League, If you happen to know or have a replay against Mylor, please share it here on the comments, I would love to learn more about this game and how to counter some meta strategies as well.
