It's good to share another 1st place @sps.dao Tournament Report. I've taken a bit of a hiatus from my Splinterlands Battle of the Day series with the start of the school year. Thanks again to @fatjimmy for the sweet East Point idea that pairs two random sets in a seasonal rotation.
What made this tournament extra fun for me was the pairing of Untamed and Rebellion, pitting the two sets with powerful 7-mana legendary summoners against each other. At Gold League Gold Foil, I don't have any of the Untamed legendary summoners, so it was an experience having to navigate the likes of Yodin and Kitty in this event. Cryptic, Lorkus, and Tofu were more than capable of picking up the slack against Splinterlands' most powerful summoners. On to the Day 2 action!
BATTLE 1 vs. @ula.ocean
Harsh wake up call in my first battle of Day 2. I faced off against Yodin and didn't bring much of a plan to counter with more HP in 2nd position. The blast ability carried the day in the Back to Basics battle, despite the best attempt of Lorkus to beef up my modest attack force. An IG OG got me with a flawless victory!
BATTLE 2 vs. @holotofu
Playing against the alt account of my esteemed KoG guildmate @bravetofu meant a face off against Kitty and Kron in this magic-only battle. I matched his two powerful neutral monsters from Untamed for the tank heal and silence, but it was the Rebellion legendary neutral Nalara Geinek that made the difference.
The second silence combined with its crucial void ability meant that it would not take damage until Kron got last stand. The affliction tactic from Lorkus helped a bunch too! Over the course of 11 rounds, the two scattershot attackers managed to pick off holotofu's backline monsters. All while my frontline used affliction to keep his tank from healing.
BATTLE 3 vs. @bubke
The rulesets of this melee-only, opportunity, and equalizer battle made it prime conditions to showcase the insane power of the mimic ability on Olivia. I had an extra monster on the battlefield with the 1-mana Halfling Refugee leading the line. We both brought the new Voucher promo Mana Warden to give shield to our most important 6-mana monster.
Silverblade Fighter might look daunting with its 8 armor with the added shield from Mana Warden, but it was simply no match for Olivia. Want to know how crazy mimic can get? Olivia managed to pick up the Protect ability off of the Fighter, giving my whole team +2 armor at the start of Round 2. BONKERS! That came in clutch as the melee monsters ran into Tofu's thorns on each attack.
BATTLE 4 vs. @maplelicious
Big respect for my fellow YGG Brawler to show the depth of character to choose Zeddica in the Silent Summoner battle with several other dual color combinations available. We both centered our strategy around Daarg Deadblast's weapon training, but I trumped him with the silence from Death Elemental. The double striking Axemaster fell victim to the blind debilitation on a few key attacks that helped me get over the hump.
BATTLE 5 vs. @bravetofu
I was lucky enough to pull off the Tofu double with another win over one of the best chaps in KoG and on X! He was showing off Gallicus, a new Rebellion soulbound reward legendary with taunt for Little League battle. He used Prunda to pair life and water, while I went for the elusiveness of Bloom to give my water team flying.
Brave jumped out to an early lead, picking off my Shock Trooper before its second attack with hus double snipe strategy. But he had no plan to hit my Mar-Toren Seeker! With flying and dodge, Seeker drew even more misses than I thought, as I eased to a comfortable win.
BATTLE 6 vs. @thebadwitch
Another Gold Foil Yodin, and another blowout loss for me. I thought it would be cool to try out that new toxic heal ability with four scavenger monsters in the resurrection battle. But ultimately, I had the same problem as my first battle against Yodin because I didn't plan for enough HP support in my 2nd position. I didn't even think to bring someone with reflection shield. For Shame!
Four more battles to go...
BATTLE 7 vs. @h-monsters
I came prepared for Yodin this time and managed to get over the line with the added attack bonus from Drath Risqruel. I knew to expect Yodin in this range-only battle, so I did my best to get as much HP into my lineup as possible. The protect from Tower Griffin helped a bunch, especially with the extra monster I got into my lineup with only 19 mana left to use.
Nimbledook Sniper was definitely worth the 7-mana purchase price, dealing six damage per round. Also, Blackmoor Trickster is amazing value for 8 HP and close range for just 3 mana. This time I turned the table on Yodin with a flawless victory.
BATTLE 8 vs. @shadowwolf888
Sadly, I had to dust off another close KoG guildmate, ShadowWolf, in this tight Day 2, but it's to be expected. To be the best, you need to beat the best. This is what the Kingdom of Glory is all about!
Olivia once again showed why mimic is up with the best abilities in the game. I dominated Shadow's Grim Smith lineup by bringing three opportunity monsters to get in behind his defenses.
Olivia crucially mimicked protect from Truthspeaker during Round 4 to shield herself (and the team) from the snipe of Lone Boatman. Lorna is especially strong with her Divine Shield in the resurrection battle. It's really fun to see the healthy mix of Rebellion and Untamed abilities come together in this tournament.
BATTLE 9 vs. @huyquangvtvn1
I needed to win this battle at the top of the standings, with Huy posing my last major hurdle in this event. I didn't put him on an Untamed summoner since his is mostly a Modern account, so I didn't plan specifically for Yodin.
The battle rules posed a challenge to navigate with poison and earthquake to deal with. I eschewed the flying from Drath for the raw power of Lorkus' magic and melee buffs. I really wanted to take advantage of the life leech tactic to bolster my monsters' HP and help them survive. Survival was the name of the game!
Combined with Demise Archon Faust, half my lineup had life leech magic attacks. The new Rebellion reward card Chaos Evoker excelled in this battle, with its blast and ambush abilities on center stage in a battle where speed and damage is at a premium. This is the only way I was able to overcome the flying on my opponent's whole team with just a pair of flyers myself.
The blast on Evoker's first two attacks directly led to an extra monster getting picked off by poison damage each round. The 3rd magic power from Lorkus meant blasting for a second point of damage on the 2nd monster. Once again, I leaned on Tower Griffin to steady my backline and provide the defensive +2 armor to keep my team safe.
Big W!! One more!!
BATTLE 10 vs. @matt-dub
For this pivotal last battle, I just had a hunch this OG account would lean into Untamed and go for a low-mana Mylor strategy. So I made sure to go heavy on the range attack to leverage the buff from Drath while avoiding thorns. Bulldog's summoner also provided the flying ability which does a good job at providing some underappreciated evasion.
My lineup selection was spot on, with Goblin Dartling soaking up snipe damage while Halfling put in work holding down the tank spot. That bought my backline enough time to make that added range damage count, and we quickly swarmed the opponent. It didn't hurt that Mitica's big 6 damage blows never did close to max damage when killing my monsters.
That's what it takes for a top finish in the competitive ranks of Splinterlands tournaments. A Day 2 record of 8-2 clinched 1st place for me and whatever bragging rights I get for ending on top of the stack. I always look forward to these high-league East Point events for all the interesting battle decisions that come with the random set pairings from season to season.
These GF East Point events typically have vacant prize slots, so if people take on the challenge of renting a few cards and trying their hand at a new format, they may enjoy the fruits of their effort. Get in on the action and I'll see you in the Splinterlands!
