BATTLE LINK -- August 31, 2024 -- Day 244 of 366 vs. @autofeed
I might be a few days behind, but I won't let that stop me from sharing my best battles with the battlemages of Splinterlands. Today I focus on a key battle during the final days of the previous Season 141, when I finally made it to Modern Champion League! It is always one of my favorite battles of the season, but it is a shame that I had such precious little time to battle in Modern that it took me 13 days to get there.
The 47-mana battle had three rulesets: Manuevers, Blood and Sunder, and Back to Basics. My fellow Kingdom of Glory alliance member Autofeed played for speed by choosing Lux Vega and water, while I played for power with Lorkus and fire. Even with the speed buff from Lux, my monsters had comparable speed and more attacking power.
My featured monster is a prime example of attacking efficiency, the Chaos Legion fire rare Djinn Apprentice. For 5 mana, this monster brings 4 magic attack and 4 speed with 5 health. Add in the magic buff from Lorkus and Apprentice deals 5 magic damage for 5 mana. That is a great deal!
In back to basics, it is essential to select monsters with high speed to attack before the opponent. Even without any speed modifications, all 6 of my fire monsters had speed of at least 4. Although my monsters had lower health than those on the water team, the tactics giving two monsters life leech really helped boost that health toward the end of the battle.
Of course, as I mentioned before, this battle continued my win streak and propelled me into Modern Champion with under 24 hours left in the season. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it to Champion 2, getting as close as 3980 rating before slipping back down to the mid-3800s at season's end. There's always next season and at least I'll be starting in Modern Diamond 2. Until next time...
