BATTLE LINK -- December 5, 2024 -- Day 340 of 366 vs. @yabapmatt
It has been months since I posted a Battle of the Day, so what better way to finish the year off with a BANG than to get back in the habit of my daily battle series?! And what better opponent to feature in my first article back than the CEO's personal account @yabapmatt?!
The Modern Champion League battle had a mana cap of 46 with three rulesets: Taking Sides, Manoveurs, and Unprotected. Dragon and Earth were not available for selection, as were neutral monsters. With Arkemis and Slipspawn unavailable to be picked, I put my opponent on Oshannus as the only other strong forcefield option to play as tank. With death as an option, I figured he would play Cryptic and I was right.
To counter his frontline forcefield play, I went for pure speed and power (and randomness) with a potent range lineup using Jacek as the summoner. I only had access to one element compared to my opponent's dual-element summoner, and they even had the benefit of picking a tactic against me.
My featured card in this battle is the Chaos Legion reward legendary, Countess Sinash. Although she is lacking in health, she makes up for it with her speed, swiftness, and deadly 4-power blast range attack. The affliction ability came in handy as well, since my opponent brought two tank healers and one triage monster to the battle.
After looking at the lineups, I thought I was in a bit of trouble. Although I was trying to go faster than him, he brought two swiftness and two slow (counting -1 from Cryptic) to battle. I only had the swiftness from Sinash and the +2 speed from Jacek, meaning that after abilities were added he would net one more unit of speed compared to my monsters.
But queue the scattershot from Jacek to save the day, since that is the great equalizer to a lineup built to sustain the tank with two tank heals and a cleanse. I was concerned about the blind ability forcing too many misses, but Sinash connected on a few key blast attacks that helped turn the tide.
The battle was too close to call down the stretch. He had healers, but my big, random attacks were too much for his team to handle. It came down to the wire and my Sinash was able to take down his Oshannus with my very last range attack before Sinash would have been forced to the frontline.
It was a thrilling win, so I just had to make my return to BOTD to share it with the Splinterlands community. You can always stream the battle yourself by clicking the BATTLE LINK above the lineup screen shot. Hopefully I can keep up with my Modern battles and bring you all more BOTDs.
