BATTLE LINK -- December 6, 2024 -- Day 341 of 366 vs. @m3ll0n
OK, so maybe I fell behind a little bit with my daily posting, but I'm not giving up this close to the end of the season. I am still doing my best to battle in Modern Champion League when I can. This win was the pick of the bunch from last Friday.
The 34-mana battle excluded the life element and had just one ruleset: Five Alive. With only the constraint being a 5-monster lineup, my opponent and I had many different strategies to consider. In the end, we both came to a similar conclusion about how to build our teams with the legendary Rebellion summoner Cryptic.
While they opted for Oshannus to lead the line, I suspected they might also select Cryptic with the expose tactic, so I didn't think Oshannus would be effective as my tank. Instead, I opted for a dual weapons training setup and Venka at the back without as much fear for forcefield due to Cryptic's expose tactic.
Not for the first time in this series, the Rebellion null attack water common Daigendark Surveyor is my featured card of the battle. Its slow ability came in clutch, allowing my expose monsters to strike before theirs did. It also provided some key stun attacks and exposed his monsters to allow Venka to tear through Oshannus' forcefield.
My opponent's strategy was strong, with all 5 of their monsters have poison attacks after tactics were granted to Oshannus and the new legendary promo, Nephket. The dual attack with stun and knockout is a very potent ability. There was a moment in the battle when it stunned Venka with its range attack but crucially missed the double-damage melee attack due to blind or its speed deficit. I was a lucky boy on that one.
In fact, with Cryptic as summoner, a lot of the attacks feel somewhat random with the blind ability making the battle unpredictable. All you can hope for is that your strategy and tactics have put you in the best place to succeed, despite the RNG associated with attacking through Blind. Until next time...
