BATTLE LINK -- January 5, 2025 -- Day 5 of 365 vs. @housewifeftw
Savvy readers may have noticed the Helmet Kharafax at Level 7 in today's thumbnail and not at max Level 10 (or Level 5 for my Silver League Brawl Fray 20). This battle comes from Day 1 of my favorite tournament of the week -- The Mount Mox Diamond Invitation Gold Foil event. It's the biggest payday available in the SPSDAO's tournament series and I can't afford to miss these anymore!
The 31-mana battle had two rulesets: Heavy Metal and Born Again. With only Earth excluded from battle, there were tons of potential strategies to build out these lineups. My fellow Gold Foil aficionado, HousewifeFTW, came up with a Lorkus strategy centered around using Moxian Rebel for weapon training and building up the health of their two void monsters using the life leech tactic. I also opted for a weapon training strategy, but mine required the help of a conscript summoner.
The featured card of the battle is the common Life Gladiator, Helmet Kharafax. Even at Level 7 (instead of max Level 10), it is a force to be reckoned with and worth the effort to jam into the lineup. The bloodlust ability is so strong and plays so well in Born Again battles where there are lots of weak, 1-health monsters running around. Of course, with every monster getting two lives, the scavenger ability gets triggered often and helped to put Helmet's health out of reach.
The Gladiator wasn't the only bloodlust monster I snuck into my lineup. I also placed Jared Scar in the second spot, with his huge melee attack and true strike. Using the flank ability from my Silverblade Fighter, Jared used its reach to attack my opponent for big chunks of damage. His damage was a huge help in taking down Grim Smith from the opponent.
But my opponent's magic attack was ripping through my lineup. After Scar took out Grim Smith, it didn't last much longer. Those 3-power magic attacks were starting to add up and I wasn't sure if my team would survive. When Aves died for the second time, I was left with only Helmet Kharafax against their three monsters who still had both lives left.
Fear not my loyal readers, as Kharafax was up to the task. First, it killed the Seer with magic reflect, triggering bloodlust. Between the scavenging and bloodlusting, Helmet's health was no longer threatened. Of course, its void ability helped to half the attacking power of the opposing magic monsters. Despite being under-leveled for the Diamond League battle, Helmet Kharafax was well worth the inclusion, even at the cost of using the conscript summoner Helios Matriarch. Don't mess with Helmet, ya heard?!

Nice, Helmet is always a good choice! All the better with that maxed GF owl too 💪
Helmet pairs nicely with a max GF Rage too! It is amazing how often I will just go for Helios just to run Helmet, especially when I can give it a dual attack with Berix or Zyriel.
